Meet Brenda Turrubiarte | DFW Family and Senior Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Turrubiarte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brenda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. It started out as disposable cameras, then graduated to using my moms film camera, to a point and shoot digital, and then my first DSLR. I’ve always just loved capturing memories. I was never super technical, maybe the framing wasn’t just perfect, but the people and the smiles is what I wanted to remember. Fast forward to having my first daughter, and that spark of capturing every little moment came alive again. I knew I wanted to remember every tiny detail with my daughter, but I wanted to help others remember every detail of their lives too. I wanted to capture the the little details, the connections between families, the chubby toddler grins, the tiny newborn feet, and the joy in every little moment. So here I am, doing just that for some amazing families.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For the first couple years, in between my full time job and bedtime, I took courses that taught me how to use my camera, how to pose people, how to edit, and all the things in between. I spent hours and hours of my free time trying to become better and better every day. I became a robot to what I learned, which didn’t help my creative side at all and ended up causing some frustration in where I was headed. But once I had my 2nd and 3rd kids, it was like a fire was lit inside of me again. I had the knowledge and the skill, and now I just needed to use it to capture the memories I wanted for myself. Now, I am a true to life photographer in every way. I capture moments, not just poses in a rich and vibrant way. I have four children of my own and have a background in teaching, so when families come to me to capture their little ones, I know what I’m doing. I’m so proud that I have finally reached a point in my business that I feel extremely confident in the experience and the images I provide to my clients.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Denton, and love the quirky small town vibes our little D gives off. I would first take them to dinner at Barley and Board in downtown Denton where we would definitely get the sweet potato hummus and their famous burger. After dinner, we may walk down the street to West Oak Coffee for a cup of coffee with their homemade apple pie. There is always some kind of festival or market of some kind going on in Denton. The community market is fun to walk around discovering homemade items from different members of our community. Earl’s 377 Pizza in Argyle would be the next go to dinner spot and then hop over to Gnome Cones for the best “snow cones” in town. Denton feels a lot smaller than what it really is. I love the pace, the ability to just go on a walk in your neighborhood or downtown and almost always run in to someone you know. That’s my favorite part of this town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband has been the most supportive and encouraging person in this whole endeavor. He has always been the first person to tell me to “just go for it”, whether that was purchasing new gear, investing in my own education, or meeting and collaborating with other photographers along the way. He has always been the first push to get me moving. He is my biggest cheerleader, the reason I strive to be better in every way.
