We had the good fortune of connecting with Bre Nefertiti and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bre, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Deciding to treat my hair business as an actual business instead of a hustle played a major role in my elevation. I’ve been doing hair since 8th grade and always treated it as “quick easy” money up until 2021. 2021 I rebranded, switched my business name ( formally known as Bre Whipzhair), found a salon suite, got structured and more professional, made my clients book online only and everything else fell in place. Also deciding to discontinue all other services like braids, silk presses etc and fully focus on women cuts, fades & Alopecia hair played a big part in my growth.
Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what are you most proud of or excited about. How did you get where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not how did you overcome the challenges? What are the biggest lessons you’ve learned along the way? What else do you want the world to know about your brand and story?
Since a little girl art was always my 1st love then as a teenager I developed my hair skills. At 18, I received my cosmetology license and began mastering my cutting skills on all hair types. With time and experience I start executing my artistry into my hairstyles & cuts. I’m a natural born artist and also a diverse stylist. That’s what set me apart from other stylists. I can cut all hair types not just weave and I add my own creativity to my styles. One challenge I’ve faced as a hair stylist is being an underdog. It’s like I had the skills but was overlooked, now here I am overbooked and we’ll known for my women fades and pixie cuts. I’m proud of myself for continuously elevating in the hair industry. Even with so much competition, I know that my energy and cutting style is unique. Being a hair stylist is more than just doing hair for money .. it’s art, it’s a lifestyle, it’s my passion, therapy and peace. Not only do I love cutt’n up on my clients hair.. I enjoy listening to their hair needs, bonding, adding that spice to them and making them feel good inside & out. My clientele and skills are on the rise so I’m only going to get greater. Come see me in Mesquite,Tx at my Hair Trap.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout out to my loyal clients. They are my biggest fans and keep me motivated. I love our bond and I love how they speak so highly of Nefertiti cutz and my skills. Most of my clients literally get in my chair and let me try whatever I want on their head. Trusting the fact that when I’m done they’re gonna be on point.
