We had the good fortune of connecting with Bre Giglio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bre, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been someone who goes after things; I don’t wait for things to come to me, I go get them. Starting Bashify wasn’t so much, some grand plan that I had, as it was a storm of realizations hitting me all at once. For starters, I was burnt out as nurse. After two years in the field I found myself wanting a more creative job and after spending the past four months renovating a house with my new husband I was eager to work with him more! On the drive home from our honeymoon I turned to my husband and said, very matter-of-factly, “I’d like to quit my nursing job and start a business with you.” We had both always talked about starting our own business and after having an amazing beach picnic date in California we decided it could be fun to get into the event space. Armed with passion and excitement the second we got home from our trip we jumped in!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Bashify is a full scale event and party supply company with the goal of making high quality party goods widely accessible so throwing an amazing party is full-proof and low stress! I pride myself on being willing to try everything and I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty: no party is too big and no task is too difficult for me! At Bashify we prioritize either hiring or developing trained party professionals in house so we can handle everything from A-Z – meaning our clients’ budgets will go further and their parties will be better! I’ve worked really hard and made a lot of mistakes to develop skills in everything including floral arranging, charcuterie, and even making TikToks to help grow Bashify. I’ve found that learning all the different trades that go into creating a great event has helped to make me appreciate our vendors more, stimulated my creative energy, and ultimately made our parties better. I hope people who read this know how hard we work to hone our skills to delivery the absolute best event possible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my goodness, where to start! I’m a sucker for three things – a good specialty beverage, a fun activity, and a delicious dinner. My favorite iced vanilla oat milk latte (my go-to drink of course) is at Houndstooth Coffee, so of course I’d take my friend there. I’m obsessed with the brunch at the Henry in downtown, and I think I’d have to pick up another coffee there because they have so many good options there too. I love going to places like TopGolf, Pinstack, or Bowl Games (Football Bowling) where they have games and bites – and if they have good boneless wings I am definitely sold. I also love going on walks on Katy Trail with my family, so that’d be another great spot to take a friend! We’d have to mix in plenty of BBQ like Babb Brothers BBQ has, tacos from La Ventana, and a fancy dinner at 60 Vines.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My absolute biggest supporter and main source of encouragement comes from my husband, Chris Giglio. Since the very beginning of Bashify he was up late with me building picnic tables, packing our cars, and networking to anybody and everybody who’d listen. He works his 9-5 as a software engineer and then works another full time gig at Bashify. When I became pregnant, he fully ran the business for many months is the reason Bashify is where it is today. He handles all of the business’ finances, invoicing, and is the overall handy-man, prop builder and team morale booster! Without him Bashify would still be a little side-gig ran out of our garage – he is the reason we’re a self-sustaining company with multiple employees and an insanely bright future.
