We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Fuller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I believe this question is the most personal for me, because I’ve both prospered and stressed in this area. After graduating college in 2011, I spent most of my 20s dream chasing and juggling different jobs. The concept of work experience/history never really concerned me, so I moved to Los Angeles to chase a dream of becoming a music artist. It’s rather ironic that I quit my job at the post office in Dallas to do so, because I ended up getting a job at a call center in LA while performing shows at night to make up for the cost of living. When employers ask about the gaps in my work history, I usually have to explain the time spent given to my creative endeavors. I wouldn’t change a thing though. Youth is filled with possibilities and transformative ideas, while true adulthood is the capacity to fulfill obligations and be responsible. That’s the balance for me. I created while I was younger, and now I work to sponsor the ideas/products I’ve created.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love the actual process of becoming a creative and embracing the energy it gives you. It keeps you youthful. As I mentioned, I started off being a music artist(Hip-Hop), and embraced writing along the way. Hip-Hop allowed me to explore culture in a grandiose way, to view and document the human experience from a fluid perspective. That’s what flow is to me. It wasn’t easy, because everyone believes that what they initially create is good, but those 10,000 hours certainly matter. To master a craft takes great effort, but most importantly time. The race is not given to the swift, but those that persevere. My brand is about that, perseverance. I have a comic series based on a novel I wrote in 2017 called ENIGMAS: Earth’s New Intelligence Genome Made of Ancient Secrets. In 2020, I hired an artist(remotely via UpWork) to design the characters and another to illustrate the actual series. Me an that artist are now on issue #6 and we’ve continued our journey to this very day. The fact that she lives in Brazil makes it that much more special. I’m not big on pride and being proud, but I’m happy and grateful that we’ve been blessed to continue our friendship.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was to visit me, they would have to know we’re going to Deep Ellum first. From the bars and restaurants, I love the feeling of just natural activity and being around people. Uptown would be next. After that, I’m just a family person so a trip to see my people is a must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God is the foremost reason that I am what I’ve become. Throughout my entire journey I’ve made it an obligation to grow my faith alongside my gifts. Even when I’m not actively in a church, I take the approach of faith comes by hearing, and hearing via the word of God. I try not to limit myself by who I like so to speak, instead taking the meat and throwing out the bones. Everyone from Bishop TD Jakes, Steven Furtick, Joyce Meyers, and Joel Osteen have been allowed to minister to me on my spiritual journey. It’s an everyday process for me, whether I’m creating or working a job. I make it a thing to seek God’s word early in the morning when I first wake. Only my family, Derrick & Prenticia Fuller, holds such importance in that process. They have always allowed me to carry out our family saying to “do good and be great.” We believe in each other through every struggle and victory.
