We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My initial reaction to this question is: To empower women, ignite boldness, encourage hope, and tell my story about overcoming a 20 knife stab attack in my home and strength it took to find love in what would be a hopeless situation. In 2020 I had a challenging time in mothhood and red lipstick was something that helped me see beyond those insecurities. Through sharing my love of red lipstick with others I recognized that women struggle finding the perfect red lipstick they can wear at work, during a night out, and everywhere. Most women buy red lipstick for a special occasion. I am passionate about helping women, especially women of color, find their perfect red lipstick that allows them to feel confident wearing it every day and for any occasion.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My focus is to create a look that compliments a red lip, and I also love a classy natural glam look. I am excited for my red lipstick line, which focuses on products that compliment a red lip color, from the eyeshadow palette to the lashes and so much more. There is so must to share regarding my journey and the many different women who impacted me throughout my walk, from makeup artists who were starting like myself to motivational speakers and my advisor team and coaches who helped me along the way and still am today. The journey wasn’t always easy; there were times through this walk that I wanted to stop and focus on my family and give it all up. But when I say I have a spiritual group of women who encouraged me to keep going and seek the help I needed to push through. I learned that I did a lot of self-sabotaging to myself, and I was the one talking myself out of the endeavors that God has for me. I knew to boost and cheer yourself on, appreciate your accomplishments, big or small, surround yourself with people who want to see you win, and affirm yourself. I want people to know that I am more than a makeup artist; I am a renowned speaker helping women step into their boldness, I am a beauty influencer is shares her love for makeup, and I am the business owner of B. Anderson Collection. I want women to understand that I had a hardship in my life that could have taken my life, but God saw that I had a fire in me to share with the world the joy and hope he provided inside me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is difficult for me, but my best friend is really good at setting up an itinerary, but I’ll give it a shot. If the weather is nice. There will be some patios sitting involved and listening to some LIVE music. Stroll through the Stockyards Shop at the Southlake shops Definitely have tea time as we scroll and look at antiques. Make our way to thrift shopping shops. We would travel to WACO, Texas – I haven’t been to the Magnolia Market at the Silos
– I have to go (don’t judge me) Take a drive to Austin, Texas to dance, have a good time and EAT! Shoot, this may be a 2 to 3-day trip because there is so much more I know we want to do!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my dad, who was an example of the entrepreneurial spirit. As a child, I use to see my dad own so many side hustles and be successful. His driver to doing what he did was to share his gifts to help the people. Shout out to my mom, who wore red lipstick; it didn’t matter the shade. She was the example for me that it doesn’t matter the skin tone; you can wear red lipstick any day of the week, not just special occasions. Shout out to Cherri Johnson, who was the person who confronted the insecurities that were stopping me from doing what I love today. Her encouragement and words pushed me to take action. Shout out to Stacie Miller, who has always been a proud supporter of my business endeavors and the one who will buy my products even if she doesn’t know how to use them. Shout out to my supporters, friends, family and people who don’t know me but want to see me win.
