We had the good fortune of connecting with Blake Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blake, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a passion for food and creating things from scratch that people can enjoy and experience with others. Food is a universal language that can reach the masses. Starting my own catering business would give me the freedom and joy of having my desired work life balance. This combined with the instability of corporate America, particularly after COVID motivated me to get serious about having something that I was in control of and that was more predictable and permanent. However, I have to admit being a business owner also comes with its own challenges.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am extremely proud of the quality of food and service I produce. Food is truly the way to a persons heart. So, in my opinion, private catering should be an experience. Restaurants are on every block, and therefore it should be something different and special about having your meal tailored to your wants and being apart of your vision. Providing intimate and individual memories for every client is what I am most proud of. I am excited about the barriers I am breaking currently as a small business. I went from small brunch gatherings to weddings of over 200 guests in a year! Although, it has been exciting it has not been easy. There is definitely a learning curve with every new endeavor, but as I mentioned before my support system has always been there to help me regroup and manage the difficulties. What I have learned is that it is impossible to please everybody and that everybody is not your target audience. If I wanted to tell the world anything about my story, I would let them know that I am a walking example of what God can do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For sure, I would tell everyone to try Pangea. You literally can’t go wrong with brunch, lunch, or dinner. For entertainment, I enjoy going to local museums and really just trying new restaurants. DFW has a plethora of options and honestly, it’s hard to miss out on a good time. You could start in any direction in Downtown Dallas and find everything you’re looking for.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Being an entrepreneur comes with a lot of trials and tribulations. With that being said you need a strong backbone to hold you up when times get rough – because they will. That backbone for me is first and foremost God, followed by my family, who has been there from day one. The reason my family plays such a big role is because without them it would have been so easy to give up. God has truly blessed me with a strong village that is motivating, loving, and helpful. But, there is one important person that deserves some individual credit and recognition and that is my business partner and fiancée. My soon to be wife is basically the heart of the business. We’ve been together for a little over two years, so that’s the entire duration of me being a full time entrepreneur. I just do what I love and that’s cook. She truly allows this business to operate properly.
