We had the good fortune of connecting with Big Plo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Big, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor in my success is vulnerability.

In a sea of disingenuous influencers and creators, I aimed to be the anti-influencer. I’m not interested in having a ton of brand deals or creating sponsored content.

I wanted to create a safe space for body positivity, mental health awareness, and LGBTQ+ issues presented in an off-color or sophomoric way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started off my life wanting to be a professional wrestler. When a spinal injury rendered that no longer an option, and my career as a rapper wasn’t going anywhere, I decided to go to culinary school and become a professional chef.

I’m very proud that I was able to call an audible and find another passion to put my all into.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place I bring anyone visiting Dallas is Beto & Son at Trinity Grove. The food, the drinks, the ambiance, and the incredible staff led by Chef Julian are second to none.

There’s almost always a late night Deep Ellum visit involved as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to anyone struggling with their true identity, or anyone stuck in a situation where they cannot be their true self.
