We had the good fortune of connecting with Big Nardo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Big, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is necessary for growth and I feel like it has been the reason I’ve made it as far as I have. If you’re too comfortable, you’re likely not in a position that’s putting you in a position to get stronger, smarter, more talented, etc.. Growth is right outside of that comfort zone, and taking risks is what brings you out of that. My life has been a result of taking risks, stepping out on faith. Sometimes you have to jump in the water to know how well you can swim. I’m thankful I’ve been able to tread this long.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I believe some people look to differentiate themselves from the pack so much, that they end up losing the ability to be relatable. I think my strength is knowing that, while we all have our minor differences, we have more in common than we may realize. I look to speak to and capture that commonality amongst people, whether it be in my music or my visual artistry. Understanding this commonality has actually helped me grow professionally as well. I look to the greats in business and the arts and realize, they’re not too different from me and it reminds me I can achieve what they have and more if I stay consistent.
Consistency itself is one of the harder parts of stepping into your own. Some days your ‘best’ looks different from others, knowing and accepting that fact has helped me continue moving even when I don’t feel I’m moving as quickly as I’d like. I want the world to know that you can do whatever it is you put your mind to, as cliché as it sounds.. Don’t worry about how others are pursuing their path, sometimes you have to have tunnel vision to not see others and keep chasing your goal.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my family, friends and network – in Dallas and abroad. Stepping into an entrepreneurial lane, or preparing yourself to share your art with the world can feel like David v Goliath at times..just you trying to reach the masses, whether it’s to push a product or yourself. Knowing I have this support in my corner and people who believe in me keeps me going, even when it gets tough.
