We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I most proud of and excited about when it comes to my work as a sound artist is my ability to collaborate with other artists and their mediums. one of the most exciting projects that I got to do recently, collaborating with Big Thoughts (A)LIVE program, was taking sound and using it to add another layer to the poetry of the youth we’re working with. I honestly want to say I got to where I am today because of support from other artists. folks who understood my medium and were able to see how it can impact those who were connected with it. It definitely wasn’t easy especially when it came to figuring out how to use my medium to create art but I overcame that honestly just by touching base with previous mediums that I used to work with and going back to the root of why I wanted to make art in the first place. A lesson I feel that I’ve learned along the way is that as long as people are compassionate about the work that I do that it’s okay that they don’t fully comprehend it. Finally what I want the world to know about me as an artist and my story is that I want to use my art as a way to connect us back to our senses because that’s what allowed us to create art in the first place.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m very much a art person when it comes to places I want to go to so if I had to take someone somewhere what comes to mind is different art galleries. the Dallas Museum of Art, Pencil on Paper gallery, Dallas Contemporary, and Daisha Board gallery are just to name a few of some of diverse art spaces that are in Dallas. I’m also into theater as well so we’ll definitely consider visiting Theatre Three to see some of their shows as well as Dallas Theater Center. when you’re thinking about comedy Four Day Weekend Comedy, Stomping Ground Comedy, Dallas Comedy Club are just a few as well. if you’re thinking of somewhere to eat a couple places that I like are Freeman’s, Hattie B’s, Hopdoddy’s, Campisi’s and my current favorite bar is Black Friar Pub. I feel that going to any of the places that I listed really allows you to meet people that create this melting pot we call Dallas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to shoutout the organization that has not only allowed me to share what I do on a multi-generational level but to also grow as an artist amongst a community of like-minded folk! This organization is Big Thought and the purpose of the organization is empower youth within underrepresented communities through having youth voice expressed through creative mediums that develop skills in order to engage socially and emotionally with the world around them. I also want to shoutout anyone who has been supportive of my work as an artist, be it friends, family, and folks met along the way. Having this kind of support is a constant reminder that helps me continue my journey.
