We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Burgess and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There were many reasons for wanting to start my a company, I wanted to be able to take all the things that I was not happy with from my career experiences and make them better. I wanted to be able to help people, many times my wife and I would go to dinner or lunch and I would say “it would be so nice to be able to provide people with a chance at a career,”. I was never able to do this working in corporate America. I wanted to be able to provide a place for people when Corp America had given up on them. There are a lot of people in this world that I truly believe just need that 1 chance that 1 person to believe in them and their dreams, being able to provide that is a very important piece to this company.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As GC’s we get a bad rap for caring more about money than really helping people. I have been blissed and I am surrounded with the best core group of people in the industry and I truly believe and let them know it all the time. There has definitely not been an easy button that is for sure, I used to think it was as bad thing but at this point in my life I am happy that I never had an easy button in life. From the get go things were hard, from working full time and going to school part time thus causing it to be 8 years for a 4 year degree. My wife and I struggled with being able to have children, we tried for over 6 years to have a child and put all our faith and money in to it only to be let down. Through all the struggles we were able to keep going and finally blessed through IVF with 2 health kids. As a family we have always believed that brick walls are not put in front of us to keep us out but they are there to really see how bad you want something. All these struggles carry over to our brand, things are not always easy but with hard work and dedication mountains can be moved.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I’m honest I would take them to Fogo de Chao, I mean where else can you go and have meat served to you on a sword? I would also have to take them to I fly so they can experience a rush of adrenaline. I would also hang out at the house, m y family is a huge part of my life so spending time with my wife and kids is a must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I give credit to God, he has opened many door when I thought they were closed. Second my wife, she has been my rock for 20 plus years and has been my biggest supporter when many people thought I was crazy from walking away from Corp America. My business partner, we just have a really good dynamic when we work together… you know who you are! Lastly my team, those guys/girls work hard and without them we would not have a company. I have the best support system out there.
