We had the good fortune of connecting with Bart Brunner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bart, what do you attribute your success to?
I want SquareWaveLive to be a place where anyone feels welcome regardless off who you are, the type of music you play, or your skill level. I think the fact that we are welcoming and responsive to our clients and we treat people how we would like to be treated is the most important factor behind our success.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are fortunate to have a great community of rehearsal spaces in Dallas, each with unique and passionate owners. SWL is new in this industry and we look forward to offering a variety of services for our clients in addition to monthly and hourly rehearsal spaces. Starting SWL has pushed me both as a business professional and a musician. It has been fun to learn the best way to mix sound for so many varieties and genres of music. And I think just like being a professional musician, you’re never done learning, you’re never done tweaking your gear or your set-up and chasing better and better sound, and this side of the music business has been no different. I am always asking myself what I can do better and working to improve my skills and client experiences.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live and work in East Dallas and love going to all the local spots with friends from out of town–whether that’s a day walking around at the Arboretum or lounging at FOE. On a weekend morning, there’s always a stop at one of the local coffee shops–White Rock Coffee, LDU, or Cultivar. For lunch, Goodfriend is great for drinks and food on a patio. I also love taking friends over to Lounge Here for cocktails and dinner with a stop in to buy records at Good Records. After that, we may check out Balcony Club for great music. If the friends in town are musicians themselves, of course we spend some time making noise up at SquareWaveLIve.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife, Maddie. I would not have this opportunity without the support of my family with the majority of that support coming from my wife. We are partners in life and in this business, and I do not take for granted how lucky I am to have someone say “if you want to change careers or start your own business, I support you.” I am also extremely grateful for every single SquareWaveLive client. Their trust is essential to our success.
