We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Gee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barbara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Party Geenius has been in the making for way longer than most people realize. Event planning has always come naturally to me—it’s like I was born for it. From my very first corporate job, I took charge of large-scale events, ensuring every detail was just right.

Funny enough, I never really dreamed of owning a full-fledged event-planning business. What I *did* want was to create a fun, boutique-style shopping experience where people could find unique, curated party décor that you wouldn’t see in your typical stores. I’ve always loved those special, handmade, Etsy-like details that make events feel more personal and memorable. That’s what inspired Party Geenius—a mix of my love for events and my passion for unique, stylish, and unforgettable party elements.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Party Geenius apart from others is our unwavering commitment to exceptional customer service Every single team member takes pride in providing a warm, personalized experience. From the moment customers walk through our doors, we greet them and welcome them into our happy place, taking the time to understand their needs and help them find the perfect party elements. Even something as simple as answering the phone with a live person during business hours makes a difference—people are still surprised (and excited!) that they get to speak to a real person. In a world where shopping has become increasingly transactional, we bring back the **joy of human interaction and genuine service.

As for how I got to where I am today, I now see that every job I’ve had in life has prepared me for this role Passion for events is important, but structure, strategy, and experience from past roles have equipped me with the tools to run and grow Party Geenius. The journey hasn’t been easy, though. Let’s be real—**nothing worth having comes easy. You can’t be lazy in business; you have to show up every single day, stay consistent, and push through—even on the days you want to quit** (and trust me, some days I’ve wanted to quit multiple times in one day… but I’m still here, lol!).

Lessons I’ve Learned Along the Way:
– Give yourself grace. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a thriving business. Growth takes time.
– Surround yourself with like-minded people. The right community and support system make all the difference.
– Be willing to adapt. Business is constantly evolving, and flexibility is key to staying ahead.
– Customer experience is everything. The small, thoughtful touches leave the biggest impact.

What I Want the World to Know About Party Geenius & My Story:
My mom always told me growing up that Rome wasn’t built in a day. That’s the mindset I bring to Party Geenius. Building something meaningful takes time, patience, and perseverance. There will be setbacks, there will be long nights, but if you stay committed, push through the challenges, and keep showing up for yourself and your business, it will be worth it.

Party Geenius isn’t just about selling party supplies—it’s about creating joy, celebrating life’s special moments, and making every event feel unique and unforgettable. That’s what drives me, and that’s what I want the world to know about my brand and story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooh, this is a tough one because there are so many places I’d love to explore, but with my busy schedule, I don’t always get the chance.

If my best friend was visiting, I’d plan the perfect staycation-style trip—no planes needed, just relaxation, fun, and amazing experiences!

• Stay at Hotel Swexan – Boutique luxury at its finest! The design, service, and overall experience here are top-notch.
• Dinner & Live Jazz at Baboush (inside Swexan) – The music, the vibe, and the Mediterranean-inspired dishes make this a perfect first night.
• Morning coffee at Otto (Adolphus Hotel) – There’s something so charming about sipping coffee by the window here.
• Spa day at The Joule – It’s been ages since I’ve gone, but it’s always an incredible experience. Massages, facials, the whole works!
• Casual dinner & cocktails at The Charlotte American Bistro – A new favorite of mine, so of course, I’d add it to the list!
• Shopping spree! – I can literally shop anywhere, so this would be an adventure, maybe Bishop Arts, Highland Park Village, or NorthPark.
• Custom lipstick-making at Lip Lab – A super fun, girly experience where we get to create our own signature shades.
• Pizza night at Pizzana – The gluten-free pepperoni is my absolute fave!
• Morning walk on the Katy Trail – A great way to get some fresh air and enjoy the city.
• Brunch somewhere cute – Maybe Beverley’s or Le Bilboquet for something light and delicious.
• Mani-pedi time – Still searching for a go-to spot, but we’d find somewhere fabulous!
• Drinks by the fireplace at The Adolphus – A cozy and relaxing way to end the evening.
• Slow morning with coffee & room service – Nothing better than lounging in hotel robes and catching up.
• Maybe another spa treatment (because why not?)
• Girls’ night in at the hotel – Room service, laughter, and reminiscing about old times.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a huge shoutout to my incredible team for taking this wild journey with me. Their drive, creativity, and passion for making Party Geenius a success have been nothing short of amazing. Having a team that’s just as dedicated to the vision as I am has been an absolute lifesaver.

Our community in Deep Ellum has also played a huge role in our growth. From the moment we opened our doors, we’ve felt welcomed and embraced, and it’s been incredible to become a fixture in such a vibrant and creative neighborhood. The **Deep Ellum Foundation** has been a strong supporter of our business, helping position us for success and giving us the opportunity to thrive.

I also have to recognize the **Dallas Mavs Cohort Program**, which has been an incredible experience. It connected me with major contributors and organizations that actively support small businesses in Dallas. The opportunity to learn, grow, and collaborate with other talented entrepreneurs has been invaluable—it’s been a game-changer for Party Geenius.

Women entrepreneur organizations have also played a huge role in our journey. **She Can Work, Dallas Girl Gang, Yelp, and Dallas Black Bloggers** have provided mentorship, referrals, and an amazing network of support. Their encouragement and willingness to uplift other women in business have made a real difference.

And last but definitely not least—my husband! He gets a front-row seat to all the chaos that comes with running Party Geenius, and yet he’s still my biggest supporter. His patience, encouragement, and unwavering belief in me mean everything.

I’m beyond grateful for every person, organization, and community that has helped shape Party Geenius into what it is today. This journey wouldn’t be the same without them!
