We had the good fortune of connecting with Bad Bonsai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bad, what principle do you value most?
Cultivating community is really important to us as a band. We want everyone who listens to our music and comes to our shows to feel like they’re part of a tribe and a unique shared experience. Especially now, when it’s so hard to stay connected to people like we used to, we want our music and everything that touches it to help create a sense of shared emotion or common experience. It’s just who we are and what we think people need most during this time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our music combines passionate vocals and harmonies with fresh pop beats and melodies. Ultimately, we want our music to connect with people and make them feel like they’re part of a community.

We come from a variety of musical backgrounds: For brothers, Josh and Joel, they spent hours playing guitar and drums together in the game room of their home in San Antonio. Graham, a native of Louisville, KY, took up bass at the age of 13, after he saw his older brother playing bass. Claire grew up in a military family that moved frequently, and started out in school stage productions and banging out showtunes on her home piano. We all found that music gave us a way to belong and a language for us to express ourselves and cope with our struggles.

Music has been such a lifeline for all of us, and we would love for our music to be the same for others. For us, music is all about connection. We want everyone who listens to our music and comes to our shows one day to feel like they’re part of a tribe and a unique, shared experience. Especially now, when it’s so hard to stay connected to people like we used to, we want our music and everything that touches it to help create bridges between people. It’s just who we are and what we think people need most, especially right now.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have an incredible team that believes in what Bad Bonsai is and what we’re trying to achieve. Not only do we have four band members but producers, managers, and photographers that we’ve partnered with to work towards our goals together. Shoutout to our team at LOCKNKEY for getting us this far!
