We had the good fortune of connecting with Avery Jerina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Avery, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At this point in time, my photography is still in its beginning stages of transitioning from a hobby to a complete business. Since I only recently turned 18 and am a senior in high school, getting this business running has been a slow but meaningful process. I began practicing this art at the age of 13 after picking up my parent’s camera, which they purchased to capture images of my youth. I recall scavenging through our backyard, desperately looking for any item or scene worth photographing. Presently, my photos are nowhere near what they were on that first day in my backyard, but they all come from that same place of curiosity and passion. So I suppose there was never an extensive thought process that went in to starting my business, I just knew that I had something worth sharing.

Alright, what makes your business stand out from others?
I believe my photos stand out most from others through their diversity. I do my absolute best to tailor my style to each and every model I work with, which in turn creates various personalities in the photos I take.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would most definitely take someone to eat at Noodle Swing in Flower Mound; they have some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had. I would also have to take them to downtown Dallas, as it has such a rich culture and a variety of things to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family deserves immense credit for the progress I have made. Although it took some time for them to recognize my drive for this art, they are constantly supporting me and my occasional chaos. I also feel that it’s necessary to thank my friends, as I am lucky to have such photogenic people in my life to practice on.
