We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Autumn, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is community. Without word of mouth, The Keepers of Aris would not have grown to the success it has today. At every book event I have had so far, I have had the pleasure of selling out of the copies I bring with me to each event. So many people within my community have helped tremendously in spreading the word about The Keepers of Aris, as well as helping me grow a following behind it. Thank you everyone who has supported me along the way, and the people I continue to meet that share excitement and love for The Keepers of Aris.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The Keepers of Aris is my debut novel and start of my career as an author. The story is for ages 13-17, but even young adults can find solace within reading The Keepers of Aris. One thing that greatly sets this story a part from others is the nostalgia it brings to adult readers; they can enter the world of Aris Magica and be brought back to a time when they were ages 13-17 and YA fiction was in its “golden age”. Knowing this makes me excited for how The Keepers of Aris is able to touch readers across the world. My goal as an author has always been to create a space where anyone can go to feel like nothing is impossible.
The road to becoming a published author was not easy. I had to overcome a lot of rejections before I finally found the company that I was meant to partner with. The one thing I learned by overcoming the challenge of rejection was that patience is key. Instead of letting the feeling of failure consume me, instead I continued to work on The Keepers of Aris and make it the best product that it could be. I continued to read through the manuscript with close friends and colleagues in order to gain a new perspective on my work. This new perspective helped me elevate my debut novel and bring it into the success it has today.
I want the world to know that failure doesn’t mean giving up. Sometimes dreams just take a but longer than what you originally had planned in your head. The Keepers of Aris is a testament to that. I hope the people who read it enjoy the journey it shares and is able to take it with them throughout their life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite food to eat is asian cuisine, so I would absolutely have to take my friend to Pad-Thai Restaurant (Authentic Thai Cuisine) in Overland Park, KS. We would also visit, Chosen Korean BBQ, the River Market, and K-Street Hotdog, and Café Vie. After filling our stomachs with delicious delicacies, I would take them to Ding Tea and/or Tsaocaa Tea for something to drink. Both places offer a high variety of milk teas, fruit teas, and boba drinks, so you can’t go wrong! Lastly my friend could not leave the Kansas City Metro without sightseeing some exciting places around KC. I would take them to visit the Nelson Art Museum, the Plaza, Crossroads Arts District, and the botanical gardens.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize Claire Plaster and Ooligan Press. Their efforts and support has helped me reach so many new readers that at one time I didn’t think was possible. Claire introduced me to Ooligan Press and has helped me navigate the competitive rules of the publishing world. She has supported me every step of the way and has encouraged me to reach higher. Ooligan Press has been an amazing organization to work with. They take great care of their authors and has ensured the continued success of The Keepers of Aris. Both Claire and Ooligan Press have contributed to my success story and continue to help me rise to new levels.
