We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Autumn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process for writing a novel, which has essentially become my own business, started off as a challenge. I came up with the idea for The Keepers of Aris back in high school. The plot of the story was based on a dream and I wanted to see how far I was able to take the story. Before I knew it, the story had evolved into something much larger than what I could have imaged. After I finished, it took me a long time before I had come to the decision to share this story. I came to realize that stories no matter how big or how small are meant to be shared. They’re a testimony of imagination and can shine a light on someone’s life. Therefore I decided to take my business to the next level and share it with the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Keepers of Aris is a story that follows a girl named Jay and a boy named Dylan. The story deals with overcoming grief, revenge, the pressures of society, and insecurities. I’m most excited to share this story because I believe it will be able to connect to so many people. The story has a diverse cast, which isn’t something seen often in young adult fantasy literature. It also deals with the morally grey areas between what makes a character a protagonist versus an antagonist. I hope people are able to find solace within the pages and connect to their younger selves. Professionally, it wasn’t easy to become a published author. I had to take a lot of failures before I was able to succeed. I overcame this challenge by not giving up. Endurance can be a hard thing to come by, especially if all you’re getting is rejection letters. But I learned that I could not give up on myself or my story, so I just continued to try again and listen to the advice of others. The biggest lesson I’ve learned a long the way is to not be afraid to put myself out there. Let everyone know about the projects you are working because you never know who will be able to help you along the way.

The Keepers of Aris comes out May 9th, 2023.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown Kansas City is a wonderful place to visit and explore. If anyone were to visit, I would recommend hitting up the City River Market early morning on Saturday. The area has a diverse selection when it comes to eating and trying out new drinks, so there is never a dull moment. There is also a street car that runs from the market to Union Station, offering a chance to sightsee along the way. Finally, visit the best ice cream place Kansas City has to offer, Betty Rae’s. They’re ice cream is memorable and impassable.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my friends and family. I have been blessed with a strong friend group who has always supported my love and passion for writing. Any time I had writers block my friends would help me through it, by allowing me to bounce ideas off of them. I’m very thankful to have them in my life and to have had them throughout this process. My family is my number one supporter. From a young age my parents fed into my creativity and helped me learn more about how to use it to my advantage. The gratitude I have for them is immense.
