We had the good fortune of connecting with Aśoka (Ashley) Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aśoka (Ashley), we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
From the day I was able to recognize my passion, I knew that I was destined to make an impact. With the effects and reactions that beauty enhancement had on my friends, family, and myself alike, I couldn’t imagine spending my days any other way. When my main supporter – my aunt Shelia Burage – sat me down to encourage me to pursue my dreams, owning my own business as she had was an incredibly easy choice to make. After her untimely homicide, I coped with such a loss by creating the businesses I named in her honor.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Crafting truly comes from within. With product formulation, makeup application, brow mapping, home care planning, nail art and more, when you love what you do, it shows! As challenging as it may be to ride steeper learning curves, adapt to new face shapes, products, or tools, practice always proves itself in preparation. Patience is key, and can make or break potential mastery.
My resulting brand speaks to adversity of all kinds, notating that difficulty doesn’t mean impossibility. While taking care of others, we strive to teach them to take care of themselves. Through holistic care, scholarship opportunities, community service, and mental health reminders, we aim to provide high quality services and a sense of hope to anyone that crosses our path.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas is a living, breathing community of cultures from around the world! There are many avenues of exploration in such a large city, but for an artist like myself, there’s no better itinerary than this one! Keeping safety first, visit the art district of Deep Ellum! Grab a quick bite to eat at Honey Berry, or City Works and follow up with dessert at Better than Sex! End your evening at a rooftop bar, or with a relaxing stroll at the Dallas Arboretum.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While my journey has been filled with positive interactions, I can’t help but to pay my respects to my aunt Shelia Burage. Shelia not only believed in my passion, but believed in my ability to achieve success in spite of adversity. My younger brother, Tyler, has been sure to remain my best friend and biggest supporter. Along side him, my older brother and his wife – Glenn and Miki, respectively – constantly remind me of my resilience and capabilities through every storm. Thank you to Glo Nail Lounge and Spa, for my first esthetics employment offer! And lastly but surely not least, I want to recognize Beauty Changes Lives and Circadia, the financial support behind my scholastic accomplishments in the realm of esthetics.
