We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Sellers- Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Being able to stay home with my children, and giving them everything I didn’t have growing up. I started my daycare to be able to stay home & make enough income to provide for my kids, then I started my t shirt business for fun & extra money.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I run a 24/7 Daycare. I originally started after getting into an altercation with a co worker, I quit my daycare job and had no idea how I was going to pay my bills. I went home and cried, got on Craigslist & started posting babysitting ads. I wanted to help low income families & single parents so whatever they could afford I helped them. Many kids showed up and I had no clue it was illegal to babysit or ratios even existed until state showed up at my door. I then got my license, did my training, moved into my 1st house & here I am 17 years later and still operating & doing what I love!!

I also run a T shirt business for almost 8 years now. I started because my son passed away & I needed a hobby or something to keep my mind busy. I got pregnant with my rainbow baby/ first daughter and was looking at onesies one day on etsy and saw that they were $20-40 each for custom onesies. It was that very moment I knew I wasn’t rich but I wanted to learn how to make shirts for my daughter myself. I googled everything I thought I needed & I spent hours teaching myself & perfecting my crafts. I named it Journi’s Closet which is my daughter’s middle name. Soon after I was selling to my sons football team. It’s been a new learning experience ever since from vinyl, oracle, cups and sublimation, i just love teaching myself new things. Youtube has literally become my bestfriend!! Im now teaching classes to help others with another business House of Creations & also started my own clothing brand called HATE (Humble Always Thru Everything!!)

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would probably go grab a bite to eat at Texas Road House, enjoy a margarita, get in the car and drive to a bingo hall or casino. Watch a movie with our kids, or find cute places to record our tik toks or take pics. We also love hanging out at Dallas Market Space!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My bestfriend has been my backbone to everything I’ve accomplished, without her support I wouldn’t be where I’m at today with my daycare & tshirt business. She has done so much for my business behind the scenes, from grocery shopping, being my assistant, shopping for shirts/vinyl & the list goes on!

House of Creations is another person I wanna shout out. She does crafting/t shirts as well and over the years if I needed certain help with one project she was always there and vice versa if she needed help with something.

DFW Girl Plug is a popular group on Facebook owned by Flo and I’m one of the mods, and we are able to post & advertise our businesses. I’ve gained so much clients/help in there.

But mainly my kids, without them I wouldn’t push my self each and everyday to hustle as much as I do.
