We had the good fortune of connecting with ASHLEY JOHNSON and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ASHLEY, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My thoughts about risk at first, were negative. Like “oh, if I do this it might fail and I’m back to square one.” Now I view it in a positive aspect, because if I didn’t take a risk I would not be in business today being my own boss. So risk are necessary from picking a risky outfit for my collection to launching a different collection. I have learned that it comes with the territory.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a Swim/Athletic clothing line called Mans favorite Prey. I’m proud of my brand because this is my baby stepping out of the military to this something so different, building this from the ground up makes me feel so good because I can pass this on to my kids. I’m super excited about my brand because I know how far this can go. It was not easy to get to were I am and I feel I still have more progress to accomplish. When I would bump into certain challenges I had no choice but find alternate routes and resolutions to accomplish the goal. A lesson I learned is to be patient and not be so sensitive. I would get upset when things are not going well or in a timely appropriate manner.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas is a beautiful city with a handful of things to do but my top favorite to take people would have to be XOXO Dining Room, they have a lot of selfie opt and good food, try lobster mac & cheese with the uptown diva cocktail. We would visit the Art District for more photo opts and a little history, add a little retail therapy at Northpark Mall and its a great day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would dedicate my shoutout to my Dad who passed away 3 years ago due to lung cancer. My dad taught me a lot about work ethic. He taught me to be independent, never stop learning, and always be humble. This statement lives in my mind all day. Another shoutout is to the Navy. My military experience was life changing and eye opening. The military taught me to work hard, be a team player, persevere through the adversities, and obtain good communication. With both of these major advisors it help me launch my business.
