We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashleigh Cochran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashleigh, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After years in the world of interior design, I realized the client wasn’t the priority. Oarhaus’s priority is having the client feel like a partner in every design decision, including how their money is spent. Everyone should have the opportunity to live in a place they love no matter their financial bandwidth.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It always seems a little crazy to step out without a real plan, just an idea. But when the pieces start falling into places it’s all worth it. Oarhaus was just a little nugget for so long. Until I started asking the question, why? I had many sleepless nights figuring out just to reach out to ‘every haus’. When I design it all starts with a clear path and clear vision. It was a true birth of Oarhaus, “Clear path. Clear Vision. Every haus”.
It was and still is not easy. I’m extremely organized and type A, which can actually hinder the process at times rather than just getting it done. It’s not easy being a one-woman show, but it’s also the greatest achievement. Part of the fun is the challenge and I accept it every day.
Everyone deserves a well-designed haus. I want to turn the industry on its head a wee bit. Instead of the focus steering towards my personal design, it’s discovering what design love in your haus. It’s devising a design plan(s) that work for you and your design needs.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I haven’t been in Dallas for to long, but I few favorite places a little all over the map! I love Up Inspired Kitchen in Frisco for delicious Bulletproof Coffee. If I’m headed towards Dallas I’m definitely stopping for dinner at Vidorra in Addison. Then I’m going axe throwing at Whiskey Hatch (also AMAZING cocktails).
During the day you can’t go wrong with a visit to the Dallas Museum of Art or a wander around Deep Ellum.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would never be in a place like this without my mom, dad, and the support of my amazing friends. They’re always along for the ride!
