We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariel Hendrix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ariel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The first and most important reason was to reach financial independence for myself and my kids. I’ve always been extremely independent, and I don’t like relying on others. I wanted to know that I could put food on the table and give my babies a warm bed, with or without help.
The second reason was because I have a constant need to create. I’m not sure where it comes from, but my mind moves at a hundred miles an hour all the time. Creating gives me a space to channel it. Being in business for myself gives me the creative liberty to create when and what I want.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a romance author and influencer. My goals with all my work is to encourage women that they deserve to be treated with respect and that they are fully capable of financial and emotional indepedence. I write books with characters who embody this truth, and all of my content on social media holds a similar message.

I got where I am professionally through stubbornness, determination, perfectionism, and the refusal to quit. It has never been easy, not single day of it.

I think the main way I overcome the challenges is by striving for that feeling of success that comes with hitting “publish” on a new book and receiving a 5 star review. That feeling of having a video go viral, singing a new brand deal or receiving a message that I helped to encourage a struggling single mom with my work makes me keep pushing through.

I’ve learned many lessons. The first one being that failure is just redirection, but that doesn’t mean you never quit something that isn’t for you. I trust my instincts when it comes time to ‘give up’ on something that isn’t for me, and when to double down when I know I just need to try again.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them to a Stars game and for drinks and apps at the Katy Trail Ice House.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents are my biggest supporters. Their endless love and encouragement has definitely propelled me to where I am today.
