We had the good fortune of connecting with Aqua Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aqua, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Whitewright, Tx. A small town that most people have never even heard of. I was raised by my grandparents who raised me on a lot of love and I carried that with me. No matter what I’ve gone through in life I’ve always loved people and treated them as such. Everyone who knows me knows I’m a loving, warm person.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a jack of all trades. I am self taught graphic designer and creative enthusiast as I call it. I have my own graphic design business, Solitaire Creative Designs. I co own a motorcycle apparel brand, Tabu Black Ink and I have a nonprofit for women and who have gone through domestic violence, Soulyte Inc. in my free time I ride motorcycles, model, sing, and try to build my following as a plus-sized influencer. I love all things arts and craft. When I first started my art was just as shaky as my confidence but as I continue to practice, my craft gets better and better. Designing is very therapeutic for me so when I’m in a creative space I’m definitely in a zone. As I got better in designing my wife and I created Tabu Black Ink which I do all the graphics for. This brand is geared toward motorcycle riders of color by providing apparel that depicts who we are as riders. It hasn’t been easy developing this craft or balancing all the things I juggle. The biggest hang up in the beginning was finding people who are willing to teach me things I don’t know. So I started to research and practicing using YouTube videos and my friends have allowed me to use them a guinea pigs for projects. I’m most proud that I’ve stuck to it and I’ve developed other things along the way like my other businesses and personal brand.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting one place we would definitely go is Gators on Thursday night they have amazing food my favorite is the fried gator and their drinks are dope. Plano Super Bowl would be the Friday night spot. Before the quarantine they had karaoke every Friday night and that was definitely my favorite hangout spot. A Saturday night would probably include getting cute and hitting up Austin Ave in Richardson or maybe Cloud 9 hookah lounge. Sunday would probably be spent relaxing at home or hangout with my riding club, Lady Luck.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out my wife, Candace Sublett. Before I met her I just had goals & dreams with no idea how to achieve them or the support I felt I needed to do so. She has literally been my mentor, my motivator, my coach & my cheerleader in everything I’ve done. I’m appreciative that she has pushed me and helped me lay the foundation for all the things I’m trying to accomplish.
