Meet April Littmann | Founder & Principal Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with April Littmann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi April, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
A lot of people still think interior design is just about picking out pretty furniture and arranging accessories, and while that can be part of it, that’s really just the tip of the iceberg. What we do at Neighbor Interiors goes way deeper.
Our design process is highly technical and incredibly detailed. For each project, we build a full design book that specifies every finish, fixture, and material in the home. We’re talking detailed room-by-room schedules that clearly communicate to the builder and trades what’s going on the floors, the walls, which hardware goes where, and all the way down to the grout width and color.
It’s not just about aesthetics. It’s about making sure every decision is both beautiful and functional for the way our clients actually live. Yes, we absolutely care about the sofa and the art on the walls—but that all comes after we’ve laid a really thoughtful foundation.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There are a lot of talented designers out there, but what truly sets Neighbor Interiors apart is how we combine deep technical expertise with an approachable, down-to-earth vibe. Designing a custom home or taking on a major renovation can be overwhelming, so we focus on making our clients feel calm, confident, and genuinely cared for. We’re highly organized, detail-obsessed, and love a beautifully layered space, but we’re also the team you can laugh with during site meetings and trust to think three steps ahead. That mix of professionalism and personality is what keeps our projects moving forward and our clients coming back.
I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come as a firm and I’m especially proud of the systems we’ve built behind the scenes. Our design books are comprehensive and technical for a reason. We’re specifying every material, fixture, and finish throughout the home. We’re building out detailed schedules so there’s never confusion on site. That level of precision has been hard-earned, and it’s what allows our clients to relax and enjoy the creative parts of the process.
Of course, it hasn’t all been easy. There were plenty of growing pains, like learning how to lead a team, refining our process, figuring out where to say yes and where to say no. But every challenge pushed us to improve. Great design requires great communication, and we understand that thoughtful, proactive project management is just as important as style.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about Neighbor Interiors, it’s that we care deeply. We care deeply about the homes we design, the clients we serve, and the process we walk through together. We’re not just here to make things look pretty. We’re here to create a space that reflects how you live, what you love, and where you feel most at home.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When people come visit, I usually try to give them a little taste of everything we love about living here, like all the great food, beautiful places, and ways to slow down the pace for a bit.
We almost always make time for a visit to Hotel Drover in Fort Worth. I’m totally in love with the vibe there. The interiors and exteriors are stunning, the cocktails are always great, and the whole place just feels really special without being over-the-top. It’s such a great mix of luxe and laid-back Texas charm. It’s also a great excuse to go wander through the Stockyards and do some shopping!
If the weather’s nice, I’ll take them out to Lake Grapevine for some paddle boarding. That’s one of my favorite ways to relax. It’s peaceful, it’s pretty, and it’s a nice way to unplug from the usual hustle.
We also recently tried Cactus Canyon in Argyle and it was such a fun new place for us. We really enjoyed the great food and vibe going on there. It’s definitely going in the rotation for places we like to visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Adam, definitely deserves a big shoutout. He’s been cheering me on from the very beginning. He’s actually the one who encouraged me to start Neighbor Interiors in the first place. Since then, he’s worn more hats than I can count, jumping in wherever he’s needed and helping this business grow behind the scenes.
We get a lot of great feedback about our social media, and that’s just one example of his creativity and commitment. He’s the steady support, always analyzing how we do things and how we can continue serving our clients even better. I couldn’t imagine doing this without him.
