We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Hust and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor for me is just being myself. It’s important that people see that I am the exact same person on and off social media. Nowadays you can really get away with being a totally different person online and the hasn’t really ever sat well with me. So anytime someone sees me in person, I don’t want there to be any question on whether I’m putting a character out into the world or not. Staying true to who I actually am in real life also prevents stress build up from always constantly trying to be someone I’m not. Being confident in that, people can tell. People can spot a fan a mile away, and I know I’ll never have that worry.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always have a nack for writing. Whether it was last minute papers in school, social media captions that were supposed to “inspirational,” or anything further, I’ve never had an issue writing something up quick. If I have specific parameters, I can knock whatever that is rather quickly. Depending on length requirement, I was never worried about due dates in school, nor do I often pre write captions for any of my social media posts. Couple that with my love for reading and learning on a constant basis, and I just knew I had to write at least one book.
Once I finally committed to doing it, the hardest part was really just sitting down to actually do the writing and the work it took to have everything come together.
As soon as people realize you’re serious about doing it, things truly start to come together. I found an editor I knew personally, had trusted friends give me tips and advice for covers/sticker designs/shirts and really just got down to it after.
My proudest moment was finally holding the solid copy in my hands. The first copy of anything with my name on it. Bound appropriately and even had its own ISBN barcode number. I’ll never forget that feeling and it only confirmed that I needed to continue to write as long as I had the ability to do so. Despite challenges with my time because of my actual job, paying bills before paying for the next step, and just the overall workload of writing 65,000 words and formatting them into a book, I’ve already began work on book 2 and book 3.
The entire purpose for book 1 & 2 is to realize that you were made as an individual and with all the copies and unoriginal content going around, it’s okay to set yourself apart. To strive towards a goal no one else can even see, and to be your truest self. The world needs THAT version of you more than they need a knock off of anything else.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ll be honest I don’t usually do much outside of a few specific things. I’d take my friend downtown for sure to checkout scissor tail park, maybe catch a thunder game, be sure to grab some Gigis cupcakes/insomnia cookies. Movies are real big on my activity list so Flix Brewhouse for the dining and movie experience and probably Warren Theater for an IMAX showing. We would for sure do everything we could to catch an OU football game with Hurts Donuts after. Definitely a lot of sports, eating, and sight seeing. Definitely would checkout Full-Circle Bookstore and CommonPlace Books. Stitch for homemade Poptarts.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think if I were to sit back and list everyone and everything I could think of, we would be here all day. To narrow it down, I wouldn’t be where I am without God, my parents, and my roommate/brother from another mother Alfonso.
