Meet Anthony Escalante | Miracle Leaf- North Dallas (Co-Owner)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Escalante and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Me and my wife have pursued other passions in life and created businesses based on those passions but established them individually. Our Miracle Leaf business presented itself as an opportunity to take a shared passion and build on it collectively. We both feel strongly about assisting all Texans in perusing an alternative option when it comes to their healthcare, and more specifically including medical cannabis in said healthcare.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The thing I feel that sets me apart is my daily response to my core belief that God is good and wants good for me, which results in my attempt to do everything as though it is for Him. As someone who spend 2 years in TDCJ this belief was not always something I thought, felt, much less held dear to my heart. After being released from prison in 2005 and having lost everything including my family, I wasn’t sure where I was headed but I knew God wanted good for me. With that in mind I put my head down and did what came naturally, worked my tail off. I was blessed with a chance to learn the telecom business as a telecom technician/lead in the DFW area, and for years I simply kept one foot in front of the other all the while being an absolute sponge. I intentionally asked questions, accepted every task, worked all the OT offered, and absorbed every bit of knowledge and expertise the industry had to offer. After about 5 years, I fixed my eyes on learning the managerial aspect of the business while still building on my in the field skill sets, and in 2014 stepped out on faith and started my own telecommunications installation business. I quit my job, pulled my 401K, and went all in. At first, it didn’t look good as we came dangerously close to the business failing but ultimately it prospered and with it so did our family. Our telecom business is still thriving today and has provided many opportunities including the one to pursue our Miracle Leaf endeavor. The challenges and difficulties of starting our Miracle Leaf store have been towering and far reaching in our lives. There is no aspect of my spiritual walk, emotional state, physical state, mental state that has not been put to the test during the process. Being a controversial business type that is still in its infancy of sorts in the State of Texas landed us squarely in a trailblazer role that we had welcomed but grossly underestimated when it came to the resistance we would receive. To continue to move forward it had to be a day-by-day push with God as the source of strength and wisdom. My willingness to accept the denials, setbacks, delays, and constant fluctuating situation for the 2 years it took to build out our store was monumental. Accepting these things with the idea that we will reach our goal in the appropriated time which was not in my time was instrumental in maintaining my overall health through the process. And in that I’ve learned that if you are not willing to truly relinquish control of your business daily believing that God wants good for you and trusting Him to work on your behalf then you ultimately are putting your own health at risk. What a brutal challenge to take on when every part of me wants to make demands, make phone calls, send emails, over think, over analyze, voice every complaint, and pull every string to make it all happen in the time I wanted. I use the following quote often, “I refuse to allow any business put me in an early grave”. I realize that is somewhat morbid, but it sums up my overarching lesson learned during this adventure. The adventure that is Miracle Leaf, provides those within the DFW area a place to visit for a variety of medical grade CBD products, and more importantly provide assistance with registering Texans within the Texas CURT program. This program is for anyone who is seeking medical cannabis as a form of alternative medicine, and we have been instrumental in getting numerous fellow Texans registered. We promise a next level approach to the CBD and CURT registration space with a personal Texas touch.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a huge sports fan so for me so many great moments in my life have been at sporting events, so I’d have to take them to a Ranger game. Globe Life Field is amazing and the vibe at Texas Live before, during and after a game is great.
Given good weather a day at Lone Star Park is always solid, the spectacle of it all has always been fun for me. Seeing all the horses pre-race and the overall feel is great. Not to mention you can usually catch some fireworks afterwords.
A day out at The Stockyards with dropping in at The Maverick to buy a custom cowboy hat with their tailor-made hat fitting experience and of course working in Joe T Garcia’s being a must at some point in the day.
Setting up a visit to Drive Exotic out in Cresson outside Weatherford for some exotic sports car driving is a can’t miss. We’d slide down I-30 to Downtown Dallas and grab a patio table at The Rustic for some good food, drink, and live music.
We’d check out The Star in Frisco and grab dinner down the street at Kenny’s Burger Joint.
And I couldn’t let my friend leave without doing a guided striper trip on Texoma and finding our way to Hutchin’s BBQ in McKinney at some point.
Somewhere in all that a Dallas Star game would be thrown in there. IYKYK

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My greatest acknowledgement would be to my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Without him we wouldn’t have this opportunity and without Him none of this is possible. That said, our immediate family and friends have been amazing with their numerous prayers, words of encouragement, and unconditional support.
