We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Prim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I choose a creative career because it’s who I am on the inside. When I was younger, I would always be doing arts and crafts around the house. As I started getting older, I would see something on TV or on the internet and think to myself “I think I can make that” , and that’s exactly what I did. I have tried so many projects over the past few years just because it was fun for me to do. Once I realized people were making a living off being a creative, I dove head first into it. This was something I’ve done my whole life, so why not make it my career. I have to admit though, it did take me a while to really put it out there for other people besides my family and friends to see. When the pandemic hit, I, along with a lot of other people decided it was the perfect time to take the leap and I haven’t looked back sense,

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So when I first started resin art, I found that there weren’t that many women of color. That’s why I wanted to make that my main focus, to bring some representation. Of course little ole me was not going to make a huge difference in the community, but it would introduce this type of art to a different section of people who have never heard of it before or who have seen some resin pieces but never knew what it was. That’s what I am most excited about, introducing a new world to people!

Working with resin is definitely not the easiest thing to do, but once you get the hang of it, it is so much fun. You are literally working with a blank slate where you can just let your creative juices flow, which is amazing. Now don’t get me wrong, it can be frustrating at times. Working with a material that has to have the perfect ratios and also has a time restraint can get to the best of us when something doesn’t work out properly. I have messed up so many times when creating a project, but when that happens there’s nothing you can do about it except throw it away and start over. I’ve taken that into my personal life as well. When something doesn’t go your way, take a second to reflect and see what was done wrong, fix it (if you can) and keep pushing. Being upset and doing nothing will not change anything. After all that is said and done, to see your creativity come to life is one of the best feelings there is!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
What a good question. I would definitely suggest going to Trinity Groves in West Dallas. They have so many different food options and dessert options as well. Plus you are right there at the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge which gives you the perfect view of Downtown Dallas. Day or night, you can go wrong there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I just want to start this off by saying I have had such an amazing support system from when I was just thinking about starting my business to actually making it happen. My family has been there literally since day one, encouraging me along the way and never giving up on me when I wanted to give up on myself. I also have a few friends (they know who they are) who have supported me from the beginning even when I had no clue what I was doing. So I just want to say Thank You to my support system, because without them, I would not be where I am at today.

Now on to my shout out! I would like to shoutout an up and coming production company, Lifted Canvaz. This is a group of 3 young men who are wanting to create a space for different creative outlets to shine, from musicians, artists, aspiring actors and everything in between. From planning events, to film and production, they want to help their community in ways that aren’t easily accessible and to have a space they can call their own.
