We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Wehrer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Private grants, donations, sponsors and partnerships within the community to help us provide and cover our Domestic Violence Survivor Program. Our Emergency Care Program as well as our other programs of Families in Need,Families in Crisis and One Time Crisis Programs. We also provide food pantry that needs constant restocking, “store” type items and clothing, as well as our normal every day operating expenses as with out a foundation we have no foundation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the Executive Director, before Mary Lou passed away and I assumed her role, I was a board member and than acting director. Having had many issues with different types of domestic violence over the years I know more than most people, about this and how life altering and difficult it can be to break the cycle of abuse. We operate a long term Domestic Violence Survivor program over 4 years up front initially you get lots of services and resources, to help build you, and your children back up and help you feel safe, productive and comfortable with daily activities again, at the end of your program the goal if you to become a full productive member of society again and have the tools and resources under your belt to support yourself and your children, learn the “red flags” and break the cycle of abuse once and for all. I am just overall proud of the work that we do, the clients and their children that we can and do help. Nothing worth doing in this world is ever easy, but with out faith, hope, luck and perseverance you cannot hope to make it, I cannot fail I have my children as well as our clients and their children depending on me, our foundation and our success. I want everyone to know if you hear something, see something, know something, say something, it takes a village to break the stigma of domestic violence, get the knowledge and word out there, to break the cycle of domestic violence. “Changing our World One life at a time.”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The late Mary Lou Zarnisky Delehant, she was the Executive Director and “our family” when she got too ill to continue I stepped in and stepped up after being a board member for several years, to make this foundation great, safe, happy, healthy for her and to continue on with Mary Lou’s legacy, as well as continue helping the women, children and families we have been called to serve.
