We had the good fortune of connecting with Angèle Anise and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angèle, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a quintessential born artist (I made anything a microphone since a baby), I’ve followed the music in my heart. I have a very rich journey of experience, first aimed from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. It was engrained in us to honor our passion for creation by cutting out an unstoppable path tilled with discipline and gardened with true expression. In each city I’ve lived in, from New Orleans, New York, & Chicago I’ve been able to grow and share my music, and I’m looking forward to again being a Dallas gem

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
—I’m a self-proclaimed Yankee Fried Southern Belle, & I singularly create Electro Soul Arena Rock. As my sobriquet displays, I am in all ways a mix of down to earth and otherworldly elements. I love to give true vocal soul to large emotive sounds, and at once enchant with a live, knocking, yet warm hip hop ballad. I am self taught in all my instruments- piano, guitar, and bass and have been composing since high school. I have years of sheet music and have always dedicated time to create, whether I was working in the legal field, client liaising for studios, or teaching- composing & performing has been my life force.

Currently Im working on completing my 3 part LP, the 1st five pieces recorded here in Dallas titled “First Of All”. I’ll be completing the other 2 parts in Chicago & LA this year, with a November release.

—Being from the deep south of Louisiana, yet building on my expression by way of some of the most dynamic cities in the country, I’ve cultivated an ear and sound aimed at futuristic yet familiar sounds, aimed to join those that lift what we expect from black music into the future.

—It has not been ‘easy’, yet persistence is what makes the question of difficulty peripheral for me. The rich adventures I’ve gotten to live so far and beyond thanks to pursuing my craft adds to the ‘meant to be’ of it all.

—Lesson learned:

As one grows as an artist, the life cycle of creation develops and the ‘how’s’ become clearer. It helps to be gentle with one’s self through those ebbs and flows. Endurance is key.

—I want the world to know that I am here with the sole goal to evoke empathy around the world with words that stir heart strings calm and sonics that awaken minds. I represent for those of us that have witnessed & altered our paths throughout the rapid changes of the world, yet persist to our deserving destinies. And of course, I’m simply here to Rock.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day fun would definitely be enjoying a walk through the Arts District- a trip to the DMA with lunch at Musume.

For nite fun Deep Ellum is still such a unique, fun cityscape to me. It’s like a campus of venues, so picking any end of the block and working your way down and across the 3 block is always a blast. Early dinner at Freeman, drinks at Ruins or 3Links, then catching a set down at Cheapsteaks would be a cute nite.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give recognition to my producer Frank Moka. Establishing such a professional rapport and particular sound with his guidance over the last decade has been an invaluable mentorship to me. He is a staple of sonic authority in the city & internationally, & elevates & connects me with the right people & spaces. The stewardship has been key in building my ability to compose, produce, and complete alongside one of the best frequencies creating today.
