We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andy, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Conservation Rangers Operations Worldwide .Inc is an international non-profit organization registered in Colorado: our mission, as an international, educational institution, is to establish and train Rangers to set standard in the skills necessary to support, train and supplement anti-poaching and conservation efforts worldwide, and specifically in medium and high risk areas.

Despite being a small organization compared to the big names in Conservation, we have witnessed in the last 15 years on the field what an amazing impact can be done by committed professionals, even with limited budget, to improve the efficiency and the well being of hundreds Rangers worldwide. No conservation project can be successful without involving the communities, starting from local Rangers.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m one of the very few people in the world professionally focused on anti-poaching and the security of parks. The simple reason is that people with my background and expertise usually work in wealthy industries, while the protection of the environment is always underfunded by governments.
The challenges faced by every Ranger on this planet are mostly connected to the lack of political and financial support: we know it’s a lost battle but we do our best, even risking our life, to buy more time to the thousands of species endangered by animal trafficking, pollution, land exploitation by human activities.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d invite my best friend to join us on duty: patrolling in the wilderness for a full day with our Rangers. It’s going to be tough and the only reward is the beauty of an african sunset at the end of it, but it’s the best way to explain why we do what we do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Despite it may sounds rhetoric, but my shoutout is dedicated to every single Ranger i’ve met in the last 15 years. Their sacrifices and courage are too often neglected. Their strenght and motivation is my own motivation.
