We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always had a passion for business and saw myself as an entrepreneur. After graduating from Grambling State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, my passion for business grew stronger. I am a corporate leader that’s my 9-5. I started my business because it clicked for me one day. I was investing my time, development, and energy into someone’s else company. I started my own brand (Lashcity318) April of 2020. Beauty has always been an interest of mines. I like to look and feel good. Lashcity318 was created to provide high quality, affordable product to the everyday woman. We balance alot as women so it’s important to find time to look and feel good.

What should our readers know about your business?
Lashcity318 started as a lash line and now we sale more than lashes. We started with mink lashes. The 318 represents the area code where I was born and raised, Homer, LA. The mink lashes are named after cities within the 318 area code such as Homer, Lisbon, Grambling, etc. All these cities have played a major role in my life. For example, I attended school in Lisbon, LA pre-k through high school. This makes my brand unique, it has a deeper meaning to me.

Starting a business is not easy, I have made mistakes and still making mistakes. I am not afraid of learning as I go. I have learned many lessons along the way. Marketing is super important. I don’t want my main audience to be people I know. I like to network and grow my brand. Lashcity318 is my baby. I am intentional on selecting high quality products, packages, selecting every single item, etc.

I want the world to know that I am YOU. I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, corporate leader with only 24 hours in day. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
– Brunch at Gloria’s or Another Broken Egg (I am a mimosa girl) – Day Spa sound awesome (Spa Castle)
– Lunch time (I like a vibe/ Kitchen and Kocktails)
– The Selfie Bar (let’s capture some moment/photos)
– The Galleria Dallas (Shopping is always fun)
– Andretti’s (I love a good laugh while playing a few games)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give credit to my family. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them. My husband, Gregory Young, is my mentor, encourager, and supporter. We manage a larger platform, Greater Self together. He pushes me to become greater every single day in my personal, professional, and entrepreneurship. I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without him.
