We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Oh goodness! I’m embarrassed to say that I’m not even sure there was a thought process behind starting my own business. I was in a situation where my employment affiliations changed on a Wednesday and I knew there would be children waiting in the window to see me pull up to their house on a Friday. Those sweet little faces, open hearts, and growing minds were counting on me to show up for them, and letting them down wasn’t an option.
I spent the next two sleepless nights pulling together everything I needed to come through for them. From there Big Picture Parenting grew organically.
I am here to provide what parents and children need, and fulfilling those needs are what has shaped Big Picture Parenting from a single class into parent coaching, nanny screening services, and a wealth of joy and growth mindset.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m not gonna lie, I got here through a whole lot of hard work, tears, fighting (mainly with myself), grit, support from my husband and an embarrassing quantity of cookies. The only part of it that has been easy is the smiles I get to see when a child or family conquers a challenge. I’ve learned that what I think is common knowledge probably isn’t, that I know more than was giving myself credit for, and nothing is going to remove itself from my to do list if I just ignore it.
I want the world to know that parenthood is an adventure, and Big Picture Parenting is here to help them enjoy it.
I work to be flexible with families and their schedule to help them succeed as a family unit. I understand that every family is unique and I’m willing to do my research so I can provide the best solutions for each family’s dynamic and needs. Mainly my focus is on helping parents build a frame for their children so those children can grow into happy, successful, independent adults.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends visit us, the first place they always ask to go is The Aussie Grind. It’s our favorite cafe, and feels like an extension of our home. Anyone we love enough to host in our home for a week is someone we want to introduce to the Aussie Grind family. When our visitors have children we enjoy taking them to visit the Perot Museum, Klyde Warren Park, and the McKinney Ave trolley.
Some of our other favorite places to show off are The Salty Donut, the Texas tulip farm in Denton, the water gardens in Fort Worth, Go Ape rope courses, and a whole lot of time hanging at home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could write a book on all the people who deserve credit in my journey to success (and maybe I am *wink wink*). There have been countless parents who not only trusted me with their children, but wrapped me up in their hearts and guided me through a joint journey. It would be impossible for me to be where I am without them. They have encouraged me, taught me, and let me go when the time was right.
My mom deserves a shoutout for always talking me off a ledge when I’m convinced I’m in over my head. She has been proud of my accomplishments, and always confident that I could do more.
Then there is my ridiculously incredible husband. That man deserves a gold star. He encourages me, celebrates my victory, never questions where I choose to invest my time and attention, and guides me back on course when I’m not giving myself enough credit. He believes in me when I don’t believe in myself, and has been an invaluable addition to my life and business.
It sounds silly, but I definitely wouldn’t be where I am without American Airlines, because (until 2020 hit) getting out of town was one of the best ways for me to decompress and integrate everything I experienced since my last trip. Getting away from business is just as important to my success as being in the middle of business.
