We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy George and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, how does your business help the community?
There are over 20 parents who serve on the Nichols Elementary School PTA Board, dozens more who volunteer, and hundreds who contribute. We work together to bring a simple mission to life: make every child’s potential a reality. And it’s more than just “bake sales”!
The PTA at Nichols Elementary is part of the Texas PTA, with more members than some global companies, and committed to bringing the mission to life through advocacy, leadership development and statewide collaboration. It’s amazing to be a small part of a very big tradition while still focusing on the individual needs of every student who walks through the doors.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The PTA at Nichols Elementary is just 10 years old but we join hundreds of years of parents making a difference in our communities. As the school has grown, adjusted to the pandemic and celebrated the return to school, the PTA has been there every step of the way!
Our approach is to do our best to be a representation of our community and we do that through listening and adapting to the evolving needs of our parents, teachers and students. Our advice to parents is join in! There’s a role for every skill and time constraint and the return on an investment in service is always a positive one – for you, for your family, and together, we can even impact the world at large.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We heart our local community but we have to decline as we are not able to endorse any specific businesses.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Let’s shout out to Ryon Orendain, PTA President, and true servant leader. Ryon joins a long legacy of PTA Presidents who lovingly give their time and talents to the school community. She represents inclusion, celebrating creativity, encouraging individual contributions and positivity. It creates a culture that attracts PTA members and empowers committee volunteers.
Ryon has two children at the school and as a former teacher herself she has a strong pulse on the needs of the community. Currently Ryon teaches at Barre 3 Frisco where she applies her same enthusiasm and encouraging approach in a fitness context.
