We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Ammouri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
What they think: “Oh…so you tweet for a living.” What it really is: *pulls you to the side* “…how much time do you have?”

To sum it up, working in Social Media is a beast. If I had one ~hot take~ about working in social media, it would be this: Working in Social Media makes you the most well-rounded in terms of awareness and understanding of your company compared to other roles. Working in social media means 1) Portraying your brand in human characteristics and being able to jump into that persona 2) Being on top of your company’s values, products & services, marketing, and PR communications on a day-to-day basis (inside and out, through and through, line by line) and 3) Understanding cultural, political, economic, and social happenings and knowing when to join conversations, add to conversations, and stay out of them completely.

One role in social media will change the way you strategize, implement, and react to all things that come your way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a connector. In everything I do – work and personal life – I strive to connect things, people, and ideas. That’s my differentiator and I truly believe it’s helped me get to where I am today…a confident, extremely driven, young professional in the Social Media industry. Being a connector has helped me find success in a job at a Fortune 10 company, and has helped me make long-lasting connections in all areas of my life. I’m excited about the opportunity to constantly learn. I’m excited to dip my feet into all areas and functions of Marketing and to continue shaping myself and my experiences to become a great Social Media Marketer. Not much is easy when you’re a young woman in the corporate world, or even in agency life, but once you find a group of people you can lean on for support, and most importantly, once you learn to trust yourself, you’ll be on your way. My favorite quote is by Rupi Kaur – “bloom beautifully, dangerously, loudly, bloom softly, however you need, just bloom” and I feel it speaks magnitude to my career path thus far.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In any city I visit, I hit the top ice cream spot in town. In LA, where I currently live, that means we’re going to Salt & Straw. In Dallas, that means we’re getting a pint of Henry’s Homemade Ice Cream and pairing it with a homemade fudge brownie and a movie at home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
HUGE shoutout to my brother, Joey! He may be 6.5 years older than me, but he’s paved the way for me in terms of inspiration, and I’ve got years and years before I reach where he is. He sets the bar high, and pushes me even higher. Take the corporate internship after your Freshman year in college? Joey gave me the confidence to send in my acceptance. Move across the country right after college? Joey motivated me to say “Let’s do this.” Take a leap of faith and trust yourself and your instincts? Joey always pushes me to dive deeper and dig further. He’s the reason I’m where I am today, a happy and confident young professional, and I couldn’t wish or pray for a better big bro.
