We had the good fortune of connecting with Amorette Vargas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amorette, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I am most proud of being trusted by clients. They trust when they walk in my door, they will be completely taken care of without question. I listen to their needs and concerns. It’s a relationship built on trust. They trust when they send me a referral, their friends/family will be taken care of and I will do my absolute very best to keep their business once I have anyone on my table.
I feel what sets me apart from others is not only my experience and passion for what I do but how I treat my clients. You know that saying “shh..don’t tell the others, but you’re my favorite”? When a client is in my salon, it’s all about them. I’m completely focused on making sure they know just how important they are. They’re not just a number to me, they’re what makes my business every single day.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Waxing is my art and my gift. I started waxing when I was 18. My roommate at the time and I bought an at-home microwave wax kit and it was a disaster to say the least! I was determined to master the art of bikini waxing after that and enough practice made perfect. I was also determined to grow out and repair everyone’s 90’s eyebrows, starting with my own. When I was an esthetics student, everyone wanted to be my partner when we got to the wax portion of learning because they knew I had experience and wouldn’t be ripping their brows out!
I have been blessed to be able to do what I love every single day. Most people don’t realize when they come see me, it’s more than just a brow wax. I get to know my clients and listen to their needs. I have grown my business solely by word of mouth. I quit using business cards in 2017 because my books are constantly filled with friends and family and coworkers of my clients. I never want anyone to leave my room unhappy or feel like I didn’t listen to what they wanted. I have clients who move away and always come when they’re in town and tell me “nobody does it like you do” It fills my heart and makes me only want to give my best, every single time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love DFW!! There’s country and there’s city…and then there’s everything in between. My family and I are foodies and love discovering new restaurants. We love Legacy Food Hall in Plano, and Harvest Hall at Hotel Vin in Grapevine. My boys are teenagers, so food is the key to their heart lol! Covid has kind of put a damper on activities, but there are so many things we can’t wait to go and do as soon as things are fully open again.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I remember working as an employee for a company who told me I wasn’t worth a raise often times because I didn’t sell enough of their product or work faster to bring in more clients than I was already seeing on any given day. I was burned out and running on fumes, physically and emotionally drained. I wanted to quit that job every single day.
The only thing that kept me going was my clients. I showed up every day for them. As a matter of fact, it was one of my clients who valued me so much, she told me “today, you’re quitting this job and I’m going to help you” Not only did she help me start my own business, but she has also become a successful esthetician!!
