Meet Amanda Tran | Dentist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Dentistry, like most healthcare professions, tends to be risk-averse by nature—because patient safety always comes first. In clinical practice, managing and mitigating risk is part of every decision we make. For instance, if a tooth extraction presents a higher risk due to proximity to a nerve, I’ll refer the patient to an oral surgeon to ensure the best outcome. My priority is always the patient’s well-being.
That said, I’ve been more open to taking risks on the business side. When I took over Preston Meadow Family Dentistry, I rebranded the practice with a new name, look, and feel. That kind of change can be unsettling to patients who are used to something familiar, and it was a big leap. But I felt strongly that the changes reflected the future I envisioned for the practice. Thankfully, our patients embraced it, and the support we’ve received has been incredibly encouraging.
For me, risk is about thoughtful change—making sure it’s aligned with your values and vision, especially when it has the potential to make things better for the people you serve.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Preston Meadow Family Dentistry is a comprehensive, family-focused dental practice based in Plano. Our mission is to improve overall health through personalized preventive care, education, and high-quality clinical services. We offer a full range of treatments—from routine cleanings and exams to restorative and cosmetic procedures like crowns, root canals, extractions, implants, and orthodontics.
What truly sets us apart is our team and the relationships we build with our patients. We take the time to listen and to make every person who walks through our doors feel seen, heard, and cared for. We don’t just treat teeth—we treat people. That approach has fostered a culture of trust, warmth, and genuine connection.
I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built within our practice. Our brand stands for compassionate care, clinical excellence, and a commitment to long-term relationships. We don’t take it lightly when patients trust us with their health—and we strive to honor that trust every single day.
The journey has not always been easy and has certainly had its challenges—as any small business owner will tell you. Running a dental practice requires wearing many hats. Beyond providing clinical care, there’s the ongoing responsibility of building a strong team, managing operations, and continuously improving the patient experience.
One of the early hurdles was facing skepticism from those who didn’t fully believe in my vision. That can be disheartening, but in hindsight, it was a valuable lesson in perseverance. It forced me to develop a strong sense of resolve and to surround myself with a team that truly believes in our mission. Once you find that core team, the day-to-day challenges become more manageable, and even energizing.
At the end of the day, what keeps me going is seeing the impact our work has—whether it’s helping a patient out of pain, restoring their ability to eat and speak comfortably, or giving them the confidence to smile again.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m so glad I was asked this because I love hosting and planning! If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d want to give them the perfect mix of local flavor, great food, and fun experiences. Here’s what our ideal week would look like:
Day 1: Local Charm in Lower Greenville
We’d start the trip with a relaxed morning stroll through Lower Greenville, browsing the local shops and soaking in the neighborhood charm. Breakfast and coffee would be at Café Duro—charming, cozy, and a great intro to the area. Afterward, we’d check out some nearby boutiques and later unwind with dinner and a glass of wine at Via Triozzi, known for its delicious Italian food and amazing rooftop ambiance. Or, if we’re in the mood for Mediterranean-inspired dishes with a more elevated vibe, we’d head to Sister, a beautiful space with a refined menu and cozy yet sophisticated energy.
Day 2: Arts & Rooftops in Dallas
We’d spend the day exploring The Dallas Arts District, including the Dallas Museum of Art and Nasher Sculpture Center. For dinner, we’d head to The Henry, where we’d catch the sunset from their rooftop over cocktails and shared plates.
Day 3: Outdoor Vibes & Wellness
We’d start the day with a bike ride on either the Katy Trail or around White Rock Lake—both scenic and peaceful ways to enjoy the morning. If we’re on the Katy Trail, we’d stop at Rose Café for a light breakfast or coffee—its bright, floral vibes and healthy menu make it a perfect mid-morning break.Afterward, we’d spend a leisurely afternoon exploring the Dallas Arboretum or visiting the butterfly exhibit at Fair Park, taking in the beauty of nature and enjoying some quiet time among the flowers and greenery.
Day 4: Shopping
We’d hit NorthPark Center for some shopping and people-watching. After a full day of retail therapy, we’d head to Pearl Sushi for dinner—an upscale, modern spot with beautifully crafted rolls, fresh sashimi, and a great atmosphere to cap off the evening.
Day 5: Fort Worth Adventure
A day trip to Fort Worth Stockyards would give us a taste of Texas history, maybe even catch a rodeo. We’d explore Sundance Square and wrap up with dinner at Joe T. Garcia’s—an iconic, festive spot with amazing Tex-Mex.
Day 6: Bishop Arts Foodie Tour
We’d spend the day in the Bishop Arts District, starting with my favorite matcha at Chasen Matcha Bar, grabbing food at Chimichurri Latin Bistro & Bar, and popping into the quirky shops and galleries.
Day 7: Brunch & Wind Down
On the final day, we’d relax with a walk through Klyde Warren Park, maybe grabbing snacks from the food trucks. To cap it all off, we’d enjoy a sunset dinner at Monarch—an unforgettable view and meal to end a week full of memories.
This city has such a great mix of culture, creativity, and comfort. It’s easy to find your rhythm here—whether that means good food, great conversation, or discovering something new every day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are several groups of people who have played a meaningful role in supporting me through different stages of life—my husband, who encourages me every step of the way; the mentors and professionals who have guided me throughout my education and career. But the foundation of it all comes from my parents.
My parents are the lens through which I view myself and the challenges I face. Their unwavering love, sacrifice, and belief in me gave me the strength to pursue my dreams with confidence. They taught me resilience, humility, and the importance of hard work. I owe so much of who I am—and what I’ve been able to accomplish—to the foundation they built for me. This shoutout is dedicated to them, with all my gratitude.
