We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Nkani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Before the pandemic started, I was trying to build a career in photography. Don’t get me wrong, I still want to pick that back up, but my priorities have changed since this year I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. That being said, I have been trying to be extremely careful with what I do and where I go, so as not to become sick or get him sick. So I am currently staying away from public places as much as I can and that is why I decided to pursue something I can do from the comfort of my own home, which is why I started Kaiden’s Kreations! I always told myself if I ever became a mom, I wanted to be the “crafty mama” who does everything EXTRA, haha. My thought was, if I can make cute little things for my son, why not expand and create things that people can buy too? So, here we are!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are many other people who do what I do, but for me, it’s simply something that I enjoy. There have been many times this year where I just felt overwhelmed, and I’m sure many people can attest to that, and having a side gig like this keeps me sane! The feeling of creating a product based on a vision that someone has expressed to me, and then them being so happy with their product, makes me happy! I know a lot of small shops have cups already made with their designs, but I want the customer to be able to fully design their own cup with what THEY want. Throughout the whole process we are messaging to make sure it is 100% unique for them! In light of what’s going on around us as well, I also create mask holders and personal hand sanitizers! Just to add something a little special despite the circumstances I soon hope to start selling custom masks as well. All in all, I want to eventually be a one stop shop for all your ideas! Not only that, but I want my son to grow up knowing that I, mama, always tried my best to make everything special just for him. After-all, this all started because of him!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Even though I have lived in Dallas my whole life, I haven’t truly explored it like I should. I know, I know, it’s quite a shame. But one place we always take visitors to is the Fort Worth Stockyards. It is the true epitomy of Texas. Riskey’s BBQ with a little mechanical bull riding, is definitely where it’s at. Unless they were to come during the State Fair time. Now THAT would make for an amazing trip to Dallas. Fried foods, car shows, petting zoos, rides, Big Tex, the fair is definitely my favorite time of the year. Maybe we can actually enjoy a regular fair next year!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom has always supported me in everything I take on. She is actually the reason I got a Cricut machine to begin with. (My Cricut is what I use to create all my products!) But it’s not just support in my little business, it’s her support through life in general. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her. There are not enough words to express my gratitude. Then there is my bestie, Itzell. Business wise, she has bought from me, shouted me out on her pages, everything you can do to support a small business. But what means most to me, is her friendship. Through thick and thin, she is my ride or die. I couldn’t picture life without her. We also have my husband of 3 years now, Gershom. There are so many things I try to take on, and he has supported each and every one of my ideas. I love that man with my whole heart. He has provided me the opportunity to be a stay at home mom to our precious son, and that in itself is such a blessing. Which brings me to my last person, Kaiden, our son. The name behind my business and my heart in human form. Any and everything I do for as long as I live, will always be for him.
