We had the good fortune of connecting with Alondra Islas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alondra, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about the industry that outsiders are unaware of is that, it’s not about “JUST DOING HAIR”. There is alot more that goes behind the scenes that we do not talk about. We go through alot of physical, mental and emotional stress at one point in our career and we don’t talk about that half of the time. Why? Because it’s not about us? It’s about making our clients feel beautiful. But then again how can we make our clients feel beautiful when we are going through all of this stress inside of us right.? Sometimes we just need a break! It doesn’t matter if it’s from actual work or maybe just social media (social media can be draining at times as well), but a break to find ourselves again so that when we come back, we are back 100x stronger than before. We are always trying our best to be the BEST that we forget about our well-being and one thing that I am learning from being in the industry is that my well-being has to be my number one priority in order to continue my career.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business name is called Amazingalondra. The name was invented by another stylist when we were brainstorming for a name and I stuck to it as the years went by. People then started recognizing me by my Instagram handle so I knew I had to stand up for it. I can’t have AMAZING on it and not live up to it right? So I always give it my all when I’m behind the chair. I like to stay in my comfort zone most of the time but if I need to get out of it I will and that’s what scares me a little bit. I feel like getting out of my comfort zone has helped me alot to be where I am now. I started my own little business when I was 22. That’s when I decided to become an independent stylist. The first year wasn’t easy at all. I remember having clients every day but I wasn’t making any profit at all. The same way I would get payed was the same way I would go invest it in more products. It was really frustrating for me in the beginning but as I kept going I started noticing my business growing little by little. Clients would come back, I would get referrals, clients telling me how much other people loved their hair so hearing all of that just made me push harder and not give up. I knew I had a mission and that was become known in the hair industry. Now, there’s so many amazing stylists all over the world but I was happy with becoming known in my area. As time passed by I started noticing it . More and more clients would come looking for me . Some would come from an hr away and that was very meaningful to me and still is till this day! Never in a million years did I thought I would be where I am now. All those tears and stressful nights were worth it. Being an independent stylist isn’t easy at all . You have to deal with everything yourself. There’s not someone above you that you can lean on if something happens. We are responsible for everything that occurs in our chair. One thing I always have to remember is that I can’t be too hard on myself. We are our worst enemy, and that can either make you or break you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend was visiting me for a week we would first start off the day going to the Dallas Arboretum Garden. Enjoy the flowers and roses, take memorable pictures together like always. We would then go see the full Downtown Dallas from the top of the Reunion Tower. I love seeing everything from high up. It’s crazy to see how things actually look from the top. To top it off, we are spending and ending the rest of our day in Bishop Arts. Going to the eat pizza at Eno’s Pizza, their pizza is delicious, and we can forget about the drinks! Pizza and Drinks, I think YES!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to send a shout out to my parents for being there for me! My husband for always being there for me and listening to my color stories even though he wouldn’t understand me lol (now he does) .My coworker Priscilla, because in these soon to be 3 years that we have been working together she’s taught me so much and last but not least all my clients that have been with me since day 1 because without them my business wouldn’t had been possible.
