We had the good fortune of connecting with Almetress and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Almetress, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am born and raised in Forest Hill, TX. I was surrounded by loving people and a community that truly cared about their youth. I was raised in a Black and Hispanic community, so I steadily crave authentic Mexican/Latin cuisine more than soul food at time, lol. My upbringing has contributed to my views of how I see my daily surrounding, such as an homeless person on the street. I don’t see them as homeless, but I see them as a person who fell but is trying there best to get back up again.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Stepping out on faith is literally how creativity lives. I have a few songs in the making and hopefully I will release an EP by the end of this year, if not early next year. We need more R&B artists in TX, let alone Fort Worth! My music will take out the autotune trend and bring back the acoustic, live music feel. Something you can swing out to and play in the early morning for weekend clean ups. I can testify to this statement, “Nothing in life is easy”. When being a creative/artist, it is starting from the bottom of the Totem pole till YOU work your way to the top. Handouts may come, but remember they always have a price to pay. So I always keep that in mind.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are going to OOOWWWEEE Wangz N Catfish in Fort Worth, first and foremost. After we wake up from the food coma we were tranced it, we shall head to El Mil tacos off Hemphill near Forest Hill. The best tacos, hands down! Lastly something sweet, Tiff’s Treats is always a win to me. Mind you that just day one. The best hang out area, is any trail on the Trinity River. Preferably one closer to Downtown Fort Worth.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost shoutout to God, for keeping me steadily humbled throughout my life. My good friend Malik for keeping me motivated in the music worlds and just in general life. My mother, Deborah Birdow for reminding me WHOSE I am and WHO I am, when I get stuck in my ways. My sisters; Jayla, Jalisa, Denajah and Shynia for rocking with me for years! Cheers to having patience and being gracious with me. Sierra Simmons thank you for being a great confidant and hottest nail tech, thank you shawty! Lastly Hykeem Johnson, thank your for brilliant ideas and photography skills, you are always there when I call.
