Meet Ally Dodoo | Fundraising Coach & Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ally Dodoo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ally, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
As the daughter of a teen mother and a father who was away in the military, I fought for guidance. My mother was only 15 when she had me so we were growing and learning together. I learned so much about strength and endurance from her, although she was still a child herself she never quit on me. My mother fought hard to overcome her circumstances without my father around and I was proud of her. It was a strange thing to grow up with my father being in the military and not there for my mom because I also saw him as a hero. I was convinced that he was saving the world and that his mission was bigger than raising me so I felt the need to do my part and save people also. It’s funny now when I think about it but I also wanted to be a little hero like my dad and be strong like my teen mom. That little mission brought me to the nonprofit industry a place where you can use all your little might to make a difference in the world.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ally Dodoo & Co is a nonprofit development firm that specializes in creating fundraising plans and communication plans for nonprofit organizations. Our mission is to help the organization scale and create sustainable programming so that it can acquire funding. We mainly work with startup nonprofit organizations that have been in business for less than 5 years and have revenue under $500,000 a year. We are really growing and just learning along the way also building community, we have various social media platforms that serve as tools to educate startup organizations so they receive funding. The Fully Funded Academy is our community membership program that’s $37 a month that we are really proud of, it serves as a resource where they can find trusted nonprofit professionals in our directory, courses, and templates for each stage of their journey. We are also looking to expand into creating a digital 12-month fundraising calendar that will help our organizations be able to plan their fundraising programs throughout the year, I think it’s going to really help take the organization to the next level so they are Fully Funded year after year.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dallas is a great city to be born in, it’s huge and there is always something to do. The nonprofit industry has a scene of exciting things to do on its own. There are galas, fundraisers, charity events, outreach programs, and volunteer opportunities all year long, and it’s never a dull moment. I would say to sign up for a volunteer platform if you are new to the city and join in on all the amazing ways to give back.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to the City of Dallas for creating programs for single mothers to not only survive but thrive. I know that’s a huge indirect Shoutout but if it wasn’t for the City of Dallas and the various programs they offered single moms there is no way I would be here. Through nonprofit organizations that partnered with the city, my mother was given housing, food, Medicaid, education, transportation, and the opportunity to overcome all that she had been through with having a small child as a teenager. They provided the resources for her to be a superhero and for me to be a college graduate. The given just kept giving all the way throughout my life and I aspired to give back to this city the way this city gave to my family.
