We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Tryk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

For better or worse, I’m an entrepreneur. That means that from a young age I was starting businesses (I had a summer day camp for neighborhood kids at age 12, for example – good thing no one was allergic to bee stings!) This is my fourth company as an adult (although only three made it to my LinkedIn profile.) So, having said that, when I get an idea that I’m passionate about, it’s very difficult for me not to move forward. My thought process is not “should I do this” but “what’s the best way to do this?”

My husband, Bob, and I have chronic pain. CBD helped my nerve pain instantly. Bob took some convincing because he’s a former professional athlete and has never used cannabis (he played for the NFL and was regularly drug tested.) Once I got him to try it, he was also convinced that it would help people. The more research I did, the more amazing uses I found… that is what compelled me to start Floramye in 2019 (which is also right after it became legal to sell, although it still remains complicated.)

Entrepreneur life can be challenging so I hope I’m not like this when it’s time to retire!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We have an organic line of topical and ingestible CBD infused products designed for mind>body>beauty and wellness. The fun part about having a business is that every day is different and I never know what to expect. Something very exciting could happen – like you get a press mention from Oprah (true story.) Unfortunately, tough things happen all of the time too (including recent supply chain issues, world-wide pandemics, etc.) The uncertainty could be stressful for some, but I thrive in this environment. As long as I know I’m doing my best to create value for people, I feel fulfilled.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, it would definitely have to include time at The Spa at the Joule (shoutout to Alma for the best massage I’ve ever had, and I LOVE massages!) The drag brunch and pool party at the Virgin Hotel is a crazy fun scene, and my friends are crazy fun. We would also go shopping at Legacy West in Plano, especially Neighborhood Goods, where our products are sold! My best friend is an aesthetic doctor, so we’d definitely want to check out Boho Med Spa in Allen for their signature facials!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my family. Your (mostly) unwavering support is the sole reason we have a company. Could simply not do it without your love & encouragement!
