We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allison, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I launched Hope the Dog with the goal of reaching at least one reader. No matter the outcome, I knew that if the story’s message could impact and encourage at least one person then it was a dream worth pursuing. As the Hope the Dog brand continues to grow that notion of success remains the same. Reaching readers in new ways continues to be my mission. Numbers are great, an expanding audience base is thrilling, and financial gain is exciting, but all of those are fleeting compared to the message of hope I aim to share with Hope the Dog.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hope the Dog is a children’s book about a dog, an adventure, and the power of having HOPE in all circumstances. I launched my business and story in October 2020, but the creative process began almost two years earlier.
I decided to self-publish my story and take on all aspects of production, from sourcing an illustrator (the talented Leah Rowe) to building a business, establishing wholesale channels, and launching e-commerce sales. The process continues to be exciting, challenging, and packed with learning! At the end of the day, seeing an idea come to life and end up in readers’ hands all over the world has made every risk worth the reward.
Lessons learned:
Business owners wear many hats. From communication, marketing, and product development to customer service, sales, bookkeeping, and late-night order packing, I’ve learned that the “to do” list is never done and it is okay to ask for help. I’m thankful for the fellow business owners I’ve met and the wisdom they’ve shared with me. Most importantly, I’ve learned to embrace challenges. Making mistakes and learning from them has helped me improve workflow and streamline business processes for the better. I look forward to making more mistakes because I know business revelations are on the other side!
I’ve also come to appreciate that it is okay (and often necessary) to grow slow, while still planning and dreaming big. A business can’t jump from A-Z instantly; I’m learning to enjoy the challenges, joys, and many exciting “firsts” found in these in-between moments.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fort Worth is such a vibrant city packed with hometown charm and western flair. I’d suggest drinks in the Stockyards at Hotel Drover followed by dinner at Provender Hall (Stockyards), Winslow’s (Cultural District), or Rise (Clearfork). During the day, get outside and stroll the Trinity River, watch a cattle drive (Stockyards), and support small businesses with fun shopping along Camp Bowie Blvd. or at the Shops at Clearfork.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank my amazing family, friends, ever-faithful God, and of course, my real-life dog, Hope!
