We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Shy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most important steps I’ve taken as a parent while managing entrepreneurship is focusing on my happiness. Focusing on my happiness made me become a better person in many ways! Before I became aware of how to use emotional intelligence my life always seem to be in shambles. After learning and understanding how to control my reactions to things outside of me I then realize the only focus that should matter is happiness overall with my life. Because I started softening up and just living and enjoying life my bind with my son became tighter then ever. He recognized even at such a young age that mommy is happier. It also enabled his mood to become better to because he started following my example. Many times as a business owner we can get caught up into our business life and it could bleed into home life. Which then trickles down to our family; all the stress, doubts, and fears are not welcoming your family to continue build a relationship with them it instead pushes them away. Work life balance is key.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Figuring out the direction of my business took some fine tuning. But once I knew forsure I wanted to launch a coaching business I knew I had to gain my knowledge in my area of expertise! I became a certified Life Coach and decided i wanted to be an expert in helping people change their beliefs and gain confidence. Fashion and modeling will always be dear to me. Honestly modeling helped me to realize that “I’m Not A Model I’m A Business”. I knew with my influence I wanted to be able to help my community. Going through my own personal struggles emotionally and financially, I knew all to well what it was like facing my issues head on without any guidance. Because of the pandemic starting last year It put fire under me to make my services available for free starting out. Why? Because I just couldn’t bare seeing so many people lost and no hope left to motivate themselves to get out of their discomfort/comfort zone. So that’s when I knew for sure that my expertise had to be getting my clients results in changing their thinking patterns Now I am a Master Life Coach at Designer Life Coaching. My biggest challenges starting my business was getting over my fear of speaking to many people everyday. Honestly because I was so knew in my industry I felt the imposter syndrome take my motivation away. After I decided to invest in my very own Coach I was able to regain my confidence to share my framework because I knew for sure I could help re-design someone’s life. Designer Life Coaching is in the business of helping people design an authentic lifestyle our clients can feel good about waking up to everyday! We pride ourselves on accepting our clients as they are and helping them embrace their uniqueness. Our core focus is build a lifestyle based on happiness! If you can lean into happiness at any given time you are able to shift your focus from what doesn’t need your attention. That’s what we believe and that’s what we teach to our clients. A designer life is a life lived on PURPOSE

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly my favorite spot of all times is deep Ellum! All my friends are creatives we enjoy art and culture so definitely that’s the place for me. I also adore social places such as Happiest Hour and my fav sushi place Ra Sushi. And I’ll just add I love Ramen Hataka too so definitely taking my friends there. Art museums are a must. And definitely movies are still a big thing for me so got to hit up studio movie grill for the drinks and a movie
