We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Delmastro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been my love for music and my passion for helping out my community. Music can bring people together no matter what the occasion is. I was able to use DJ’ing as a way to bring my community together to help different type of charitable events.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The things I’m most proud of are being able to DJ for nonprofits and community events to help others in need and also for DJ’ing Pittsburgh, Pa’s first ever DJ Expo.

I’ve been able to successfully run my DJ business because I have a lot of community/family/friend support. DJ’ing at first was intimidating because its typically a male dominated industry. Being a female, I felt like I had to prove myself more until I realized the majority of male DJs were totally supportive of me.

I’ve learned that you have to push yourself to do things that scare you or give you anxiety. There have been certain gigs over the past 8 years that I had some anxiety about. Those are the ones I knew I needed to do the most. It’s the only way you can grow and once you are successful, the rush is amazing.

I want the world to know that anything you do that contributes to putting smiles on people’s faces is worth the time and effort.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to a Pittsburgh Steeler football game. I’m a huge football fan and PGH is known to be one of the best sports cities. Everyone needs to experience a “Yinzer” weekend at least once haha. Afterwards, I would take them to the Foster House or Primanti Brothers to experience one of the most unhealthy yet amazing sandwiches of all time haha.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My big italian/greek family. My Nono was a DJ, my parents are music lovers, my sisters own a dance company, and my cousin is a professional musician. They’ve all been a part of my love for music. Also, my wife for buying me my first piece of DJ equipment after she was sick of hearing me talk about and wanted me to actually do it haha.
