We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always had a niche for making others feel good about themselves and helping those when ever I could. Starting Beat By Lex has helped me service everyone from all backgrounds in many ways from skin to makeup to just overall feeling great about themselves.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is called BeatByLex. It is derived from my name Alexis of course so I wanted something catchy, yet different. My business sets me apart from others because I simply care and go above and beyond for my customers providing over the top experiences. I take my time and give quality over quantity. I service in personalizing skincare routines, lash extensions, making my own lip products from scratch and of course makeup. All of my clients are beautiful, these are just ways to simply enhance one’s own true beauty while feeling great about their self in the end. I started doing makeup while in college to support myself and have a little money in my pocket, but then it just became a passion for me over time. It’s not easy at all being in the beauty industry because it’s an industry that changes overnight so you have to do a lot of work and researching to keep up, but also set yourself apart from others. My biggest challenge has been moving from Mississippi to now Dallas and starting over trying to build a clientele and get my name out there. Although that is my challenge, I don’t let it discourage me, I just keep going and keep finding ways to let everyone know who I am behind my brand. My brand is my like my baby, it needs all of the nurture and care in the world and I plan to keep giving it those things so one day it can run on its own and my daughter will have something for herself when she’s older.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love a great brunch with great music! Being a Mississippi girl, good southern food is my fave and it serves as my guilty pleasure for times I get home sick. The places I like to go that help are Common Table in Frisco, and I also love Sidecar Social in Addison. Now if we are talking sport, I’m a basketball and football girl, definitely Texas Live located in Arlington!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout always goes to God first and foremost, without him I wouldn’t be where I am today! I want to also shoutout my mother and my daughter, they are my motivation to keep going and find more ways to expand my business. My sister circle, too many to name, but they know who they are, also deserve a shoutout from their prayers to networking events and etc.
