We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had a deep passion of finding a way to help others. When I got into real estate, it was the best way I could help others and make a career out of it. Real estate is one of the best careers in my opinion where you are your own boss and how you choose to work will contribute to your success. As a Broker in real estate, it gives you a whole new passion and drive when running and operating your business. You have a new spark of drive to succeed even further.

I then decided to take that drive even further and after having my daughter, my husband and I decided to start our own excavation company , Bar T Excavation, LLC. Between the two of us being very independent and driven people we wanted to make sure we could always provide for our children wether it was my career in real estate or helping him run the excavation company. The freedom to work hard for my family and new every move I made was growth to our family in itself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the Broker and Owner of Bar T Realty, LLC and the owner of Bar T Excavation, LLC in Lampasas, TX. I am also a Broker Associate with Texas Ranch Sales, LLC based in Boerne, TX. I am extremely proud of being the young age of 26 and being able to say I am a broker and a business owner of two companies. Those who may not be familiar with the titles in real estate but becoming a broker is a high achievement. You have to be active in real estate for a certain time period, have closed a certain amount of transactions, and have the education requirements to be able to apply. I got to where I am not just due to my success but also my failures. Those failures taught me lessons that helped me advance further in my business career. They gave me the growth I needed to be able to answer a question I receive a lot, “You are young, why should we choose to work with you?” The answer is always the same, my age doesn’t reflect my knowledge that I have went and obtain to make sure I stay sharp and one of the best in the business. Knowledge and maturity will always set you apart when you are building and running your own business. People will learn to take you seriously just by how you present yourself.

Both my companies’ brand is based around our family. We strive to help and watch peoples’ dreams unfold like ours did when we started. Those we help truly are helping us raise our two kids and provide a life of showing them what hard work, friendliness, and dedication will bring you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would defiantly take them to the Fort Worth Stockyards! With my love and passion for the western lifestyle, it is one of the best places to experience that. I would recommend staying at Hotel Drover for its fun, unique style. We would go watch the legendary cattle drive in the stockyards, eat at the H3 Ranch, and explore the boutiques and shops all within the stockyards.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest shoutout for my success is my husband. Without his continued support in letting me go after my dreams I wouldn’t be where I am. He has seen me fail more times than succeed but always reminded me why I chose the career path I did.

In my real estate career, I owe a lot to the Broker/Owner of Texas Ranch Sales, LLC, Sheldon Grothaus. When I knew I wanted to specialize in the Farm and Ranch industry of real estate at the young age of 21 years old, he took a chance and gave me an opportunity of a life time to join one of the best farm & ranch real estate company in the state!

I also owe my success to a great friend/mentor Karen Gulick, Broker/Owner of South Texas Realty, LLC who also pushed me to achieve things I didn’t know I could and guide me when I wanted to throw in the towel.

Thank you to my family and friends who have also supported me with my businesses whether its putting our name out or simply just showing love and support.
