We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Ponce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Before, I used to spend a lot of time in the past, the shoulda coulda wouldas and stress when business was slow. Now, I found a balance between resting and creating when it’s slow to be prepared and organized when it gets busy. I always say, ‘Rest but never quit.’
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Moor Than Meets the Eye started in 2020 during the pandemic. It seemed like the perfect time to fully invest in a business doing what I love. I wanted to create a space where I could come up with creative ways to connect with people and not look at them as dollar signs. That year was a pivotal point for me because I was without a stable job and something told me it was time to start my business despite my situation. Everything about this business was birthed by faith, ambition, and a strong sense of direction. I’m dedicated and passionate in creating an environment of safety, vulnerability, and connection with my clients. Listening to my intuition on what their needs are while giving clients a nurturing and compassionate touch when someone is on my table is my intention no matter if it’s a chair massage event or an in home session. I took a year off in 2021-2022 when I got pregnant and experienced post partum depression. It ignited another reason in me to share my gifts with others, particularly mamas and mamas to be. Almost 3 years in and I’ve learned lessons along the way such as being okay to ask for help, not taking things personally, staying disciplined and consistent even if I don’t feel motivated, and rest but never quit. I want people to know when they book a massage, they’re not only getting just a massage, they’re also getting someone who is like them and is someone they can share their life events, judge free.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely one of my favorite places, Dallas Farmers Market to check out local vendors and fresh farm fruit and veggies, try out a couple of local vendor eats or head to Casa del Vegano for some of the best vegan birria tacos. Rent a couple of bikes and head over to the Continental Bridge Gateway Plaza going into the Trinity Skyline Trail. Some Vegan Vibrationz or Flower Child since they have fresh and vegan options. Cedar Ridge Preserve for another outdoor getaway. ANother favorite place, Central Market in Fort Worth for their yummy gourmet foods, live outdoor music and check out one of the oldest metaphysical shops, Enchanted Forest ( a fave of mine too). If we’re feeling flexitarian, go to Juicy’s Soul Food and throw some axes at Bad Axe Throwing. Hit up professional photographer Ty Harper to be in some of his adventurous and eccentric photoshoots locations.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Ancestors, I wouldn’t be here without them. My grandmother and mom. Other massage business owners I’ve met along my journey such as Balanced Trinity, Bliss By Blakely, Now and Zen Bodyworks, The Flex Touch, my business coach. My friends and anyone that’s ever shared/loved a post, comment, shared, booked, since before the very beginning.
