We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, what do you want people to remember about you?
That’s a great question. A heavy one, but a good one. It would be easy to say I want to be remembered as a great musician. But candidly, I just want to be remembered as a really good friend. That despite any difficult cards I was dealt, I never gave up on the pursuit of joy… not just in my life generally, but in it all… in my relationships, in my music, in my casual living room conversations, in the meals that I cook for my loved ones, in the songs that I share over a late night text. But at the bare minimum, I just hope to be remembered with fondness. That would be more than enough.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Music is the thing that makes me feel most in alignment and to be honest, I didn’t really pursue it initially! It just always felt this predestined fate. Like this little seed that was planted in my spirit lifetimes ago. Ugh, that’s so corny… but it’s true!! There has never been a plan B or C… just versions of plan A. I recently asked my mom if she ever felt like I would do anything else and I’ve never heard a quicker or more resonate “no” from her. And I’ve asked her a million things that definitely should’ve been a quicker “no” hahaha. But it was not easy by any stretch. While it may seem like I am moving in this fate-led ebb and flow, there’s been a lot of pain in my journey that people don’t know about or see. I just try to channel it into my art and into my work. I prioritize putting in the time to heal because I know that from healing comes beautiful things. I want people to see my attempts at honoring my pace and feel inspired to honor theirs. There is no right or wrong way to do anything at all, really. Every single expectation has been man-made. Just trust your gut, lean in, and try to learn as much as possible from whatever you’re sitting in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oooooh let me think… well, I’d start by taking them to Lower Greenville and grabbing some food at HG Supply. That rooftop is one of favorite spots in Dallas. Then we’d go to Truck Yard because it’s such a staple. Honestly, wandering around anywhere in that little block is always such a fun time. One night, we would definitely go to Catbird on the top floor of the Thompson Hotel. That has become home base for my friends I – I love it there. Oh! And Monday night, we’d definitely go to the Mi Cocina in Lakewood for a mambo taxi, of course, and then slide around the corner to Balcony Club for their open mic night! Their house band is next level. The only other thing I gotta do is hit up a dive bar to just people-watch and play pool. I have a million recs for that, but I’m loyal to my neighborhood, so I gotta say Lakewood Landing is my favorite spot.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh what a sweet question! I’d like to shoutout my community. Honestly, I have some real resistance towards the title of “self-made”. Sure, I am very proud of the career that I have built from scratch. I look at it and feel so much pride. I’ve worked my ass off. But I’ve had a lot of help, both professionally and personally… and both are equally as important to me. My friends lift me up emotionally, but also professionally. They advocate for me. They provide me with opportunities. They believe in me when I don’t believe in myself and that has elevated me into spaces that I wouldn’t be able to get to alone. In my opinion, if you don’t know how to be the type of friend that others want in their circle, you will struggle in any profession.
