We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexa Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexa, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking, to me, is like flipping a coin. You don’t know if it’s going to land on tails or heads, with risk you don’t know if you’ll see gains from taking the risk of if the risk is going to set you back. It can go either way! Risk plays an everyday role in my life/business. I can leave my house and go to the grocery store and not make it back home. I can ship clothing out to a customer and the postal service could possibly lose the package. In my opinion, there is no way to escape risk. People have to live 100% on faith and accept the risk that may come with living or running a business..
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a one of a kind! Not to toot my own horn but the creativity of my brand name is like no other Many people are attracted to it because they are curious on how to pronounce it. Yes, it’s a word but it’s not the typical way it should be spelled. It’s not just a word slapped on a hoodie, it’s art that stands out from most brands and raises the eyebrow of those who think the concept is dope. I tell people all the time I’m not selling clothes, I’m selling art. I’m most proud of the group of supporters I’ve built over time. It’s amazing to wake up to 10-20 DM’s or emails about what’s next for the brand, when the next release will be and inquiries on how to collaborate. Building a strong support system from scratch is what motivates me the most. I know there’s a million other people out there that are reachable and my goal is to reach as may of them within the next 2 years and build the “Krew” into a strong community. I got to where I am today professionally by grinding everyday. There are no days off in my world and even when I do reach the pinnacle I plan to reach there are still no days off. To become successful in anything it’s imperative to consistently work hard. On a daily basis I remind myself that the hustle is sold separately, if I don’t hustle and work hard towards my goals, I can forget about becoming successful in anything. Getting to where I am today was not easy, and if it was easy I wouldn’t want any parts of it. I strongly believe things that come easy will go easy. Furthermore, it’s the challenge that keeps my adrenaline pumping and keeps me motivated. Overcoming challenges are 90% mental for me. anytime I run into a road block, I take a step back from the situation, mentally take note on what’s going on and began to gather resources that will enable me to get over the hump in road. The number one lesson I’ve learn along my journey is the true definition of “Patience is a virtue.” Things don’t happen over night and I feel like we live in a world where people are constantly advertising to us as if it does. Putting in the work and patiently waiting for the results is what business is all about. Jeff Bezos did not become a billionaire over night, he worked hard to get where he is now and in my opinion this is only the beginning for him. If I put in the work I will get to where I plan to be overtime. I think of it like an IRA account or 401K account. No employee is going to have $100K in their account after the first two months of working for the company, it takes hard work and patience to get there. I want the world to know it’s deeper than clothes, it’s deeper than trying to make a sale. It’s about a culture of “Krew Members” that have a common safe house. Although the community may not know each other personally, each member is apart of Kəˈrizmə. That is what will connect them! Nonetheless, we will be here forever so get used to seeing Kəˈrizmə everywhere!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recently relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and I can admit the night life here is more fluid than Dallas. That’s just my opinion so for those who are reading this don’t hold it against me! If my best friend, Caitlyn, came to visit me for a week long my itinerary would consist of this: Monday-Wednesday 1. Climb Stone Mountain 2. Andretti Kart Racing 3. Top Golf Thursday: 1. Rest Day | Lounge around the house/run everyday errands in the city Friday-Saturday: 1. Hide Lounge 2. Brunch| Breakfast at Barneys Nightlife| Magic City Atlanta is full of exciting things and funny people. The clubs scene are nice here, however the city has much more to offer like Amicolola Falls State Park, Cascade, Atlanta Botanical Garden, Size Flags over Georgia and Krog Street Tunnel.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
None of this would be possible without God! He’s solely the man behind the plan. All of my actions are being guided by his light and without it, I wouldn’t be where I am today!
