We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Sechrist and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor in the success of my company is the attention to detail in each project I get hired for. Houses go up so fast in the area that sometimes the small things aren’t focused on until the homeowner moves in and starts making a list. It’s very important to me that everything is done properly as if I was in my own home.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sechrist Home Improvement has been something I’ve been crafting over the last decade but only as a hobby up until the last year when I went full time with it. It’s a home grown, caring and detail oriented business that continues to teach me new things about the industry every day. It wasn’t always easy – I’ve had various full time jobs that required my attention so appointments would have to come after work each day. I worked about 18 hours almost every day for a year before I was able to give this the attention it required and thats in large part thanks to my amazing customers as well.

We’re a jack of all trades kind of company and I think that sets us apart because regardless of the task, it’s completed correctly and with a smile.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’s been a great time experiencing Texas since I’ve been here. Whenever I have people in town to visit we end up eating tacos a few times a week – you can’t go wrong with most spots but I’m a big fan of Velvet Taco. Another one of my favorites is Onassis in Rockwall. We usually end up in Bishop Arts checking out the shops, one of the museums in Dallas or a Rangers game to see the new stadium. There’s definitely no shortage of activities for any visitors.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It takes a village right? I have a few people/books that have helped me get to where I am and continue to help me grow. I’m originally from Pennsylvania where my parents still live. My Dad has always been a DIY kind of guy. Growing up helping him with his projects has definitely shown me many tips and tricks along the way that I’m forever grateful for. As for the business/financial side, some of my favorites books include The E Myth, The Richest Man in Babylon and The Alchemist. Each one has helped in its own way to motivate me along the way.
