Meet Alex Bustillo | Travel consultant & Insurance expert

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Bustillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance is so crucial to your success professionally as well as your success in your personal relationships. Everything about business and life is about a balance. Too much life and not enough work, that’s not good, too much work and not enough LIFE, that’s not ideal either. Prioritizing is the key. As an entrepreneur you certainly have more flexibility once your business becomes successful and profitable but it’s the journey that challenges you. Each day is different because each day poses different obstacles and challenges. Be agile, be flexible, delegate when appropriate and it’s OK to say NO. Some of the most successful people in the world are fighting a battle with themselves behind closed doors and I feel that achieving work life balance can help fight those battles.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve done it all, from door to door sales to wireless sales and everything in between. Driven for Uber, Lyft, sold cars, been in Healthcare, worked at a school district, and each stop has taught me some valuable lessons.
I’m definitely most proud of taking chances in my career. This is really scary, especially in the world we live in today because every industry is constantly evolving. That being said, it’s necessary and almost a requirement to take risks, albeit educated risks, in order to grow professionally and give yourself a shot to succeed and expand your skillset.
You must surround yourself with the right people and support group, because when you fail, because you will at some point, it’s those people and that unwavering support that will help you see it through.
Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable and bring your true self to work everyday. I feel that it allows one to have a growth mindset and see other perspectives and if your peers, friends, team members see this, they’re likely to be vulnerable with you as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ohh wow, this is fun. I’d definitely want to take them to the Bishop Arts District and visit some local wineries or breweries and local restaurants. A must would be Grapevine, their downtown area and the Gaylord hotel. A visit to Texas Live in Arlington and catching a baseball game at Globe Life. Depending on the season, visiting any of the nearby lakes and staying at a hip airbnb would certainly be lots of fun and make sure water activities are included.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everyone and anyone who’s ever challenged me to be better. Family, friends, peers, etc.
My wife, my mother, my sister (who’s a very successful psychiatrist and entrepreneur), my father, my son, my friend and fellow insurance expert, Bing Crosby Jr., my friend Michael Flores, Bryan Rossello, those gentlemen have always pushed me to never settle and continue to grow.
